Friedrich Christoph Wilhelm von Unruh (born March 7, 1766 in Königsberg , † February 27, 1835 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Otto Christian von Unruh (born August 27, 1730; † June 17, 1813) and his wife Francoise Esther, born von Ruits (born April 3, 1732; † May 21, 1811). The father was a Prussian colonel in the “von Borcke” dragoon regiment and heir to Otten and Sonnenstuhl. Lieutenant General Hans Stephan von Rouquette was his uncle, as were Generals Friedrich Leopold von Ruits and Emil Philipp Friedrich von Ruits .

Military career

Unruh came on October 1, 1779 as a private corporal in the "von Posadowsky" dragoon regiment of the Prussian army and was promoted to second lieutenant there until July 1784 . On December 5, 1787, he moved to the "von Brausen" dragoon regiment . There he became Premier Lieutenant on December 1, 1793 . During the campaign in Poland , Unruh took part in the siege of Warsaw in 1794 . On April 19, 1798 he was staff assistant master and on October 30, 1800 Rittmeister . Transferred to the "von Auer" dragoon regiment, he became major on April 30, 1803 and squadron chief the following year . After the Peace of Tilsit , Unruh joined the 1st West Prussian Dragoons Regiment and was promoted to regiment commander on January 16, 1810. The troops were poorly equipped, which probably sparked the ridicule of the later General von Platen . The result was a duel that could only be stopped by an arrest warrant from the king. Lieutenant General Rouquette received as Sekundant two months imprisonment in the fortress of Spandau , Unruh three months Spandau, Platen three months of the fortress Pillau . Unruh used the time to put his experiences from the previous war on paper. On February 8, 1812 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel by patent from February 12, 1812 .

During the Wars of Liberation Unruh fought in the battles near Großgörschen and Bautzen . For Bautzen he received the Iron Cross II. Class, and on July 29, 1813 he was promoted to colonel. He fought at Leipzig , Chateau-Thierry and the battle at Königswartha. In Leipzig he was wounded and awarded the Iron Cross 1st class. At Chateau-Thierry, Unruh was badly wounded in the body by a stab with a Pallasch . In Moeckern he received a shot in the neck

On January 29, 1815 he was transferred to the I. Army Corps and promoted to major general on May 31, 1815 with a patent from June 7, 1815. On June 5, 1815, Unruh was transferred to Neisse as 1st Commander . He was retired on February 22, 1820 with a pension of 1000 Talers . On March 25, 1820, the pension was increased to 1200 thalers. He died in Berlin on February 27, 1835 and was buried in the garrison cemetery on March 3, 1835 .
