origin

His parents were the French tobacco merchant Francois Rouquette (* 1694; † 28 May 1742) from Vebron and his wife, Margarethe Elisabeth, née Lambach, from Soest , widowed Desmons. After the death of her husband, she married the businessman Johann Jakob Schulze.

Military career

Rouquette joined the engineering corps of the Prussian Army as a volunteer on May 1, 1758 and was transferred to the "von Schorlemmer" dragoon regiment as an ensign on October 20, 1758 . He fought in the Seven Years' War , which had already begun, in the battles near Kay and Kunersdorf as well as in the battle near Strehlen and the siege of Küstrin . At that time he was promoted to Second Lieutenant on February 27, 1761 .

After the war, Rouquette was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on May 31, 1769 . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 and rose to staff captain on June 10, 1781 . In recognition of his services , King Friedrich Wilhelm II raised him to the hereditary Prussian nobility on October 9, 1787 . On April 8, 1788, Rouquette was major and squadron chief in the regiment. On September 9, 1793 he rose to the command of the 1st Battalion and took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . He was able to prove himself particularly in the battle at Narew and was awarded the order Pour le Mérite on December 7, 1793 . On January 8, 1796 he became a lieutenant colonel , already on May 20, 1798 colonel and on May 20, 1803 major general . On December 30, 1803, the king appointed him chief of the newly established Dragoon Regiment "von Rouquette".

During the Fourth Coalition War , Rouquette fought in the defense of Danzig and the battle near Marienwerder . Unlike many other officers, he was not dismissed after the defeat of Prussia. Instead, he received the Order of the Red Eagle on July 3, 1807 . On July 28, 1807, he was in charge of the exchange of prisoners of war, and he also received the French returning from Russia at Bialystok . On February 26, 1810 he was promoted to lieutenant general. Since the state had no money, Rouquette had to forego the associated pay increase. Afterwards he received no command, but wrote notes and memoranda on the reorganization of the army.

On July 15, 1811, he was sentenced to two months' imprisonment in Spandau . He was a second in a duel between his brother-in-law, later Major General von Unruh, and General von Platen (the madman). On January 20, 1813, he was retired with a pension of 1,500 thalers.

With the outbreak of the Wars of Liberation on May 6, 1813, he was appointed divisional officer of the Silesian 3rd Landwehr Division. But he died on July 10, 1813.
