Friedrich Gottlieb von Oswald (* 1743 in Graebel (Bolkenhain district); † May 3, 1828 in Rauschnick (Heiligenbeil district) ) was a Prussian major general and heir to Rauschnick.

Life

His parents were Gottlieb Oswald (* March 27, 1710, † December 1, 1750), Amtshauptmann of Graebel and Wederau later Madlau, and his wife Barbara Rosine, née Hüllner (* October 1, 1720; † 25 July 1795).

Military career

Oswald came on March 10, 1761 during the ongoing Seven Years' War as a conductor in the engineering corps of the Prussian Army . Until 1763 he fought in the battles to Leutmannsdorf, Adelsheim , Troppau and the siege of Schweidnitz . At that time he was on July 29, 1762 ensign in the infantry regiment "von Thadden" .

After the war, Oswald was promoted to second lieutenant on September 22, 1767 , before he was dismissed on November 25, 1767. On May 5, 1768 he was employed as a prime lieutenant in the "von Mellin" garrison regiment , where he became a staff captain on July 29, 1777 and a captain and company commander on May 9, 1778 . In the War of the Bavarian Succession , Oswald took part in the battle near Troppau. On December 3, 1786 he was promoted to major and came on June 1, 1787 in the fusilier battalion "von Larisch". On June 21, 1789 he was appointed battalion commander and in this capacity was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 16, 1794 .

During the campaign in Poland in 1794/95, Oswald fought near Rawla and Wola. For Wawrecice he received the order Pour le Mérite on July 27, 1794 . On January 6, 1796 he became a colonel and on October 2, 1800 he received the Brigadier Tractament of 2100 thalers. On October 19, 1800 he was appointed brigadier of the 2nd Warsaw Fusilier Brigade and promoted to major general on May 20, 1801 with a patent from June 8, 1801.

In the Fourth Coalition War , Oswald fought in the Battle of Auerstedt and in the battle near Lübeck . The general commanded the vanguard of Blücher's corps . At Ratkau he then had to capitulate and was made inactive. From August 10, 1807, Oswald received half pay .
