Friedrich Jage (born October 1, 1850 in Wahrenbrück , † June 8, 1937 in Elsterwerda ) was a German builder and honorary citizen of the southern Brandenburg town of Elsterwerda in what is now the Elbe-Elster district .

Life

Jage was born in 1850 as the son of the foreman Friedrich Jage in the small town of Wahrenbrück in southern Brandenburg . After his apprenticeship with the Liebenwerda master builder Eduart Jost, he was initially employed as a journeyman until he was drafted into the military in 1870. After the end of his military service, he initially worked as a technician at Jost, but soon switched to the Berlin council mason Gustav Gause. In the winter months from 1876 to 1878 he attended the building trade school in Holzminden, Lower Saxony . The seminar gym at Elsterwerdaer Elsterschloss , built in 1878, finally became his masterpiece and on January 1, 1879 Jage founded his own construction business. The city of Elsterwerda and its surroundings benefited at this time from the railway cross that was created here. Due to the associated increasing industrialization, the population of the region also rose sharply. In the period that followed, under the direction of Friedrich Jages, until the handover of the construction business to his son-in-law in 1925, numerous buildings that shape the cityscape, some of which are currently listed buildings.

In addition to his professional activity, Jage was a member of the city council from December 1889 and a city councilor from 1902 to 1924. In 1881 he was a founding member of the city's volunteer fire department , where he became captain of the first Steiger department. Jage also worked as an arbitrator and appraisal commissioner for the fire society and as a valuer for the Elsterwerda district court.

Because of his services to the city of Elsterwerda, Friedrich Jage was finally made an honorary citizen and city elder on May 27, 1924 by the city council and the magistrate.
