Friedrich Wilhelm von Hertzberg , since 1796 Count von Hertzberg (born May 6, 1739 in Gienen, Regenwalde district , † November 2, 1815 in Selchow ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm was a son of Eustach Wilhelm von Hertzberg (1700–1763), gentleman on Gienen, Gelz and Bahrenbusch, and his first wife Elisabeth, born von Philippi.

Military career

Hertzberg was employed on May 23, 1755 as an Estandartenjunker in the cuirassier regiment "Margrave Friedrich" of the Prussian army . With the regiment he took part in the battles near Lobositz , Prague , Breslau , Kay , Leuthen , Hochkirch , Liegnitz , Torgau and Freiberg as well as the sieges of Dresden , Prague , Breslau , Schweidnitz and the battle near Meißen during the Seven Years' War . Already in his first battle near Lobositz his horse was shot and he was only able to save the regimental standard from the battlefield with great difficulty.

After the Treaty of Hubertusburg , Hertzberg became Prime Lieutenant on May 24, 1763 . In the further course of his military career he advanced to Rittmeister and squadron chief on June 14, 1772 and took part in the campaign of 1778/79 as such . King Friedrich Wilhelm II raised him to the rank of count on September 19, 1786 .

After Hertzberg had become a colonel on May 20, 1791 , he was finally given command of the cuirassier regiment "Ludwig von Württemberg" on October 6, 1797. After Friedrich Wilhelm III took office. Hertzberg was on March 1, 1798 chief of the Dragoon Regiment "von Brückner" and shortly afterwards on May 28, 1798 promoted to major general. For his many years of service, he received the order Pour le Mérite on June 2, 1804 . On the occasion of the celebration of his 50th anniversary in service, he was promoted to lieutenant general on May 23, 1805. During the mobilization against Russia, Hertzberg received a command near Danzig on September 22, 1805 under the command of General Ernst von Rüchel . Due to a serious illness, however, he had to return to his Riesenburg garrison . He was then given several months' leave to restore his health. Hertzberg was not fit for duty in the garrison until the end of July 1806, but did not move out.

Hertzberg dimitted at his own request on October 10, 1807 with a pension of 1200 thalers . However, due to the poor economic situation of the state as a result of the peace of Tilsit , he only received half of the payment. Hertzberg withdrew to his estates, where he finally died in 1815.

Hertzberg had married Dorothea Elisabeth von Löschbrand (1750-1816) on August 11, 1779 in Saarow . The following children were born from the marriage:
