Ernst Wilhelm Christoph Friedrich von Warburg (born November 30, 1765 in Bergfeld ; † August 28, 1835 in Hohen Landin, Mark Landin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently major general .

origin

Friedrich Wilhelm von Warburg came from the Mecklenburg nobility family von Warburg . His father Friedrich Ernst Wilhelm von Warburg (1732-1800) was Landdrost of the Bergfeld ( Carpin ) office in the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and heir to Quaden-Schönfeld and Stolpe, his mother was Dorothea von Tornow ad H. Wittenhagen (1738-1808).

Life

At the age of 16 he became a page with the Prussian Crown Princess (later Queen) Luise . In 1793 he joined the former von Zieten Hussar Regiment "von Zieten" (Brandenburgisches) No. 3 as a cornet . As a lieutenant, he took part in the Prussian expedition to Holland and the campaign against the French on the Rhine in the First Coalition War . He took part in the Valmy cannonade and other skirmishes. For his courage in the Battle of Hondschoote in 1793, King Friedrich Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of Pour le Mérite on April 12, 1794 .

In 1803 he became captain and chief of a squadron , and on October 7, 1805, he became a major in the same hussar regiment. In the course of the Prussian defeat in 1806 he took his leave , appointed lieutenant colonel . He went on a long journey through Austria and Switzerland . In 1811 he returned to Prussia; he was one of the first, at the beginning of 1813 King Friedrich Wilhelm III. offered their services for the Wars of Liberation .

Standard of the Mecklenburg-Strelitz Hussar Regiment

With the support of the ruling Duke Karl II , who had issued an appeal on March 30, 1813 (shortly after An mein Volk ), he recruited a hussar regiment, the Mecklenburg-Strelitz Hussar Regiment . The regiment was also called the C hussars after the ducal monogram C in its flag . From Warburg it led to the Silesian Army, where it was assigned to the brigade of Duke Karl zu Mecklenburg (1785–1837) . It took part in many skirmishes and stood out especially in the Battle of the Katzbach .

After Duke Karl was seriously wounded at Möckern in the Battle of Leipzig , von Warburg received interim command of the second brigade in the first Prussian army corps and led it until the capture of Paris . He then stayed at the headquarters of the First Army Corps. On May 31, 1825, he was appointed major general of the cavalry and brigade commander. At the end of the year he said goodbye and moved to his estate Hohen-Landin ( Mark Landin ).

family

He married on December 24, 1817 he was with Auguste, geb. Countess Blanckensee ad H. Filehne (* 10 August 1785 - † 27 August 1859). He had acquired Hohen Landin from his brother Adolph Friedrich von Warburg on the occasion of the wedding. The couple had two sons, Wilhelm Georg von Warburg (* 1820), who had Warburg House built in Tudor style on Hohen Landin in 1860/61 , and Moritz Albert von Warburg (* 1823), as well as their two daughters Luise Auguste Friederike Tugendreich von Warburg (* 1818) and Auguste Theres Wilhelmine von Warburg (* 1822).
