Ernst Johann Valentin Friedrich von Gallwitz-Dreyling (born February 1, 1827 in Beuthen , † November 5, 1906 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Friedrich was the son of the Prussian Rittmeister Albrecht von Gallwitz-Dreyling (1791-1833) and his wife Maria Barbara, born von Stockmanns (1803-1892).

Military career

Gallwitz-Dreyling visited the cadet houses in Wahlstatt and Berlin . Subsequently, it was on 4 July 1844 as Portepeefähnrich the 6th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army paid and received in mid-March 1845 character as a second lieutenant . On September 18, 1845 he became redundant second lieutenant with a patent from March 13, 1847, but his patent on April 14, 1845 was backdated to March 8, 1845. From April 1, 1849 Gallwitz-Dreyling was in command of the 5th Combined Reserve Battalion for one year. From February 15 to May 20, 1851 he was adjutant of the IV Battalion. Battalion in the 6th Landwehr Regiment to Glogau . After his return he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on June 21, 1856 and commanded from February 1, 1857 to July 1, 1859 as a company commander in the 6th Combined Infantry Regiment. There he was promoted to captain on May 31, 1859 . He came to the 1st Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 46 on July 1, 1860 and was appointed company commander on November 13, 1860 . In this capacity Gallwitz-Dreyling took part in the battles near Nachod , Skalitz , Schweinschädel , Gradlitz and Königgrätz during the war against Austria in 1866 . He was then from July 20 to September 5, 1866 leader of the occupation battalion Samter in Neisse and received on September 20, 1866 the Red Eagle Order IV class with swords.

After the war he was commanded from April 15 to May 18, 1867 as a company commander in the infantry training battalion. Gallwitz-Dreyling was then promoted to major and on March 21, 1869 appointed commander of the 1st Battalion. During the war against France he fought near Weißenburg , Wörth , Sedan , Stonne, Petit Bicetre and before Paris . At Malmaison he was wounded in the lower leg by a shrapnel and was briefly leader of his regiment in early September 1870.

Gallwitz-Dreysing was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 18, 1872 . On August 4, 1874, he was initially assigned to lead the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10 . He was appointed regimental commander on September 15, 1874 and promoted to colonel four days later. Under position à la suite of his regiment, Gallwitz-Dreyling was commissioned on October 18, 1880 with the leadership of the 23rd Infantry Brigade and appointed him on January 18, 1871 with simultaneous promotion to major general commander of this brigade . Gallwitz-Dreyling married Angelika von Thümen (1839–1915), a daughter of Colonel Albert von Thümen (1808–1871) and Elisa Matzke (1819–1895) in Spremberg on November 12, 1860 . The children Friedrich (* / † 1861) and Johanna (* 1865) emerged from the marriage.
