Friedrich Christian Eberhard Mejer , von Mejer since 1908 (born December 3, 1843 in Haus Escherde ; † June 4, 1932 in Lübeck ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

family

He was the son of August Mejer († December 25, 1876 in Haus Escherde) and his wife Charlotte, nee Brandt († September 14, 1875 in Haus Escherde). His father was a chief bailiff and domain tenant. Mejer married Gertrud von der Groeben on April 17, 1876 in Groß-Klingbeck .

Military career

Mejer graduated from the cadet corps in Hanover and joined the 1st Jäger Battalion of the Hanover Army on May 1, 1862 . Promoted to second lieutenant at the end of July 1863 , he took part in the campaign against Prussia in 1866 and was seriously wounded in the battle of Langensalza .

On March 9, 1867, he was taken over as Prime Lieutenant in the Prussian Army and employed in the Jäger Battalion No. 1 . With this he went to the Franco-German War , in which he fought in the battles at Colombey-Nouilly , Amiens and Villers . Mejer received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross for his achievements .

As a captain and company commander , Mejer was transferred to the Guard Rifle Battalion on February 11, 1886 . On September 1, 1886, he was promoted to major and as such he came to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot in the middle of the month . In the following year Mejer was commander of the 2nd battalion and in this capacity was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 18, 1891 . As-budgetary staff officer he was until June 15, 1894 by November 17, 1891 in the Thuringian 7th Infantry Regiment. 96 then worked and was promoted to colonel on Commander of Infantry Regiment. 25 in Thann appointed. On April 24, 1898, Danran worked as major general and commander of the 81st Infantry Brigade, which had been set up shortly before, in the Free and Hanseatic City of Lübeck . In this position he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, on January 18, 1900 . Under awarding of the character as a lieutenant general Mejer was for the June 16, 1901 Disposition asked. After his departure he stayed in Lübeck.

At the 100th anniversary of the Jäger Battalion No. 10 in Bitsch on December 19, 1903, Mejer and others were given permission by the Kaiser to wear their uniforms. On January 11, 1908, Wilhelm II raised him to the hereditary Prussian nobility .

On May 1, 1932, he celebrated his 70th military anniversary. Less than a month later, he succumbed to his long suffering and was on 8 June 1932 the crematorium on the Vorwerker Cemetery cremated .
