Friedrich August Karl von Specht (born September 23, 1803 in Brandenburg an der Havel , † July 12, 1879 in Eisenach ) was an electoral major general and brigade commander , Prussian lieutenant general and author of military history books.

Life

origin

He came from the old Lower Saxon noble family von Specht . His father was the Prussian major Wilhelm von Specht (1769-1811), his mother Jaqueline, née van Vrijthoff (1774-1837). She was the daughter of the Dutch medicine professor Bernardus van Vrijthoff, aldermen in Maastricht , and Jacqueline Hesselt van Dinter.

Military career

Specht entered the Hessian military service at the age of 14 (1817) , became a lieutenant in 1822 and joined the general staff as captain in 1847 . In 1849 he took part in the campaign against Denmark and was promoted to lieutenant colonel after its end . In 1854 he was appointed major general.

After a duel affair in 1863 with the Elector General Wilhelm Karl von Haynau , the older brother of the Austrian General Julius Freiherr von Haynau (1786–1856, natural son of Elector Wilhelm I of Hesse-Kassel ), Specht was transferred to Fulda as commandant . From July 20 to August 26, 1866, he was a major general on the general staff of the Mainz fortress in the Grand Duchy of Hesse , which was handed over to the Prussians after the lost war . Specht was transferred to the composite of the Prussian army and in the same year as a lieutenant general for disposition made, lived until 1872 in Marburg , then in Eisenach, where he died 1879th

Specht was considered the main representative of the liberal party in Hesse, was one of the officers loyal to the constitution in the Kurhessian constitutional conflict in 1850 and demanded his departure at that time.

Specht married Luise Büchling (born August 26, 1805, † July 6, 1841) in Kassel on August 17, 1833 . The son from this marriage was the Prussian major general Wilhelm von Specht (1838–1910).

In his second marriage, Specht married Sophie Wehr in Kassel in 1843 (* December 21, 1815 in Kassel; † April 21, 1898 there). This marriage was divorced again in 1847. Finally he married in his third marriage on May 20, 1850 in Kassel Marie Günste (born January 3, 1827 in Kassel; † October 21, 1892 ibid), daughter of the Higher Appeal Court President Martin Günste and Sophie Günste. Son from this marriage was the princely schaumburg-Lippe chamberlain and Prussian major general Walter von Specht (1855–1923).

His nephew, the son of his older brother Wilhelm, was Hans von Specht (1825–1913), ducal officer of Brunswick , from 1844 a farmer , haulier and postmaster in Texas ( USA ) .
