Gottlob Friedrich "Fritz" Eppinger (born December 31, 1882 in Ludwigsburg , † March 28, 1951 in Heilbronn ) was a German lawyer and local politician. After working as a lawyer in Heilbronn for decades , he served as district administrator for the district of Öhringen in 1945/1946 and was a member of the provisional parliament for Württemberg-Baden in 1946 . From 1946 to 1950 he was President of the Heilbronn Regional Court .

Life

Eppinger was the son of a master butcher and of Protestant denomination . He attended high school in Ludwigsburg and studied from 1901 to 1905 in Tübingen and Berlin law . In 1905 he graduated from the first, in 1910, the second state examination, and in 1909 he was in Tübingen Dr. iur. PhD . From 1906 to 1910 he completed his legal preparatory service and then settled as a lawyer in Heilbronn. During the First World War he did military service .

A Heilbronn local group of the national liberal German People's Party with Eppinger as chairman was constituted on March 23, 1920. On March 6, 1924, he moved to the Heilbronn municipal council , from which the previous DVP representative Paul Haid on February 22nd because of his departure from Heilbronn was eliminated. Eppinger was a member of the local council for the DVP until January 24, 1929, and from January 18, 1926 as chairman of a common bourgeois faction called the Civil Association . For the Württemberg state election on May 4, 1924, he ran as the top candidate of the Heilbronn DVP, but was not elected.

On April 7, 1933, Eppinger took over the chairmanship of the Heilbronn Lawyers' Association. In the same year he defended the suspended mayor of Heilbronn, Emil Beutinger , who, at the instigation of the new Nazi rulers , had been charged with embezzling the remuneration of the supervisory board at the Heilbronn district court . After the acquittal on June 22nd, SA members attacked Beutinger's house in the evening out of alleged “indignation” and caused serious damage; Beutinger himself was able to escape through a window. A break-in was also attempted at Eppinger, which was prevented by a security company that happened to be present . After Heilbronn was destroyed by the air raid on December 4, 1944 , Eppinger and his partner Hermann Zeller continued to run their office in Willsbach from February 1945 , until then at Kaiserstrasse 35 .

After the end of the fighting of the Second World War in the region, Eppinger made himself available to the reigning mayor Beutinger on April 15, 1945 and advised the city administration on legal issues. The American military government soon appointed him district administrator for the nearby district of Öhringen . He held this office from May 1, 1945 to August 1946. In the first half of 1946 he was also a member of the provisional parliament for Württemberg-Baden as district administrator . He was appointed President of the Heilbronn Regional Court on October 25, 1945, but his appointment to office did not take place until September 9, 1946. As president of the district court, Eppinger tried to rebuild the Heilbronn judicial authorities. On June 2, 1949, the Württemberg-Baden state parliament elected him deputy judicial member of the State Court of Justice .

On December 31, 1950, his 68th birthday, he retired. His solemn farewell took place on January 3, 1951 in the shooting house , at the same time his successor Edgar Zais was introduced to the office. On January 28, 1951, Eppinger was re-elected to the Heilbronn municipal council for the Democratic People's Party , but before his death he was only able to take part in the first meeting of the newly elected body, when he was sworn in on February 22nd. When he was sworn in, he had a bad cold and died of this disease within a few weeks. For him, the lawyer Paul Kleine moved up from the DVP list.

Eppinger was chairman of the supervisory board of Gustav Lichdi AG and a member of the supervisory board of Salamander AG for many years . He was also a member of the Heilbronn Masonic lodge Zum Brunnen des Heils .
