Fritz Zalisz

Fritz Zalisz (born October 17, 1893 in Gera , † December 13, 1971 in Holzhausen ) was a German painter , graphic artist , sculptor and poet .

Life and works

Zalisz was born in Gera in 1893 as the son of a goldsmith and jeweler. After his school education he completed zoological studies with Ernst Haeckel in Jena . He later became his employee and subsequently exchanged letters with him.

Ernst Haeckel introduced him to the Munich painter Gabriel von Max . During his study stay in Munich , the first plastic experiments were made under the influence of Adolf von Hildebrands . He met Lenin in a Munich coffeehouse and drew him.

In 1914 Zalisz took part in the First World War (including as a war painter for the 58th Division). In 1918 he continued his studies at the Academy for Graphics and Book Trade in Leipzig . His teachers were Otto Richard Bossert and Alois Kolb for graphic techniques (especially etching and wood engraving ) and Adolf Lehnert for sculpture.

After further study stays in Berlin , he worked as a freelancer in Leipzig, from where he set off on trips to Holland , Belgium , France and Switzerland .

In 1927, Zalisz decided against being offered a professorship in Madrid . In 1940 the company moved to Leipzig-Holzhausen. After the Second World War , he mainly created small and animal sculptures. He also wrote aphorisms and poems.

Honors

  • In 1996 he was represented with three works in the Kokoschka exhibition in Dresden .
  • 2001 South Street in the district of Holzhausen in was Fritz Zalisz Street renamed

Memberships

Zalisz had been a member of the Freemason Lodge Minerva to the three palms in Leipzig since 1930 , where he held the office of master of the chair .
