Frode Sørensen (cyclist)

Frode Otto Sørensen (born February 8, 1912 in Copenhagen , † August 1, 1980 in Stockholm ) was a Danish cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Frode Sørensen started for the ABC Copenhagen club . He was a participant in the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 1932 and in Berlin in 1936 . At the 1932 Games he won the silver medal in the team standings with Harry Hansen and Leo Nielsen behind Italy . In the individual race he finished 5th in 1932 and 12th in 1936. In 1937 he finished second in the UCI Road World Championships behind Adolfo LeoniIn 1931 he was already 10th, in 1934 8th place followed. In 1931 he won his first Danish championship in road racing. He was able to defend the title a year later. In 1935, 1936 and 1938 he was again Danish champion. In 1940 he won one of the most important Danish races, the Fyen Rundt . He won the Nordic championships in cycling four times. In 1935, 1936 and 1937 he won the team title with the Danish team, and in 1936 he won the individual race. In 1939 he drove briefly as a professional driver , but took up a license as an amateur again. In 1946 he moved to Sweden .

Professional

He was a machine worker by profession. After his career he was temporarily national coach in Sweden.
