Ole Pingel

Ole Pingel (born August 17, 1938 in Helsingør ; † December 6, 2009 in Næstved ) was a Danish cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

His first major success was winning the Danish road racing championship in 1960, after having become runner-up in 1959. In 1963 he was able to win the title again, in 1961 he was third in the title fights. He was equally successful at the Nordic Championships, where he won twice in individual races (1961 and 1962). His association initially nominated him for the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome , but shortly before the games he was recalled from the circle of candidates because he had given up a race that was important for the association. At the UCI Road World Championships in 1962 , he won the silver medal in the team time trial behind Italy with the Danish four-man . His best individual result at a world championship he had at three starts in 1963, when he finished 16th. In the Olympic year he had also contested the International Peace Tour, he was classified as 48th overall. A year later he did not finish the tour.

Professional

After a cycling career, Ole Pingel traveled to New York and sold cars for eight years. In 1975 he returned to Denmark and ran his own bike shop in Naestved until 2002.
