Preliminary round

A goal from Silvia Neid in the 24th minute was enough for the opening win against Japan.

After just 9 minutes, Bettina Wiegmann put the German team in the lead with a penalty. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Ursula Lohn increased it to 2-0 and it looked like a victory for the DFB-Elf. Only after 71 minutes was Andersson able to score the next goal. Loss of concentration in the final phase cost the German team the victory. Pia Sundhage and once again Andersson ensured the hosts win.

Germany took the lead after five minutes thanks to Birgit Prinz. Shortly after de Belo equalized, Meinert brought the German team back into the front. After 43 minutes Wiegmann made the preliminary decision with a penalty. In the final quarter of an hour, Mohr (2) and Bernhard scored three more hits. This made the German selection group winners.

Quarter finals

Towards the end of the first half, Voss took the reassuring lead. In the second round, the German team came through Meinert and Mohr to an undisputed 3-0 victory.

Semifinals
For a long time, the German team ran in vain against the Chinese defensive bulwark. It was only in the 79th minute that Bettina Wiegmann made her breakthrough and scored the winning goal. For the first time the German team reached the final. Silvia Neid completed her 100th international match.
