qualification

The German selection qualified for the World Cup via the 1995 European Championship. For the 1999 World Cup , UEFA scheduled qualifying matches for the first time.

After just 9 minutes, Bettina Wiegmann put the German team in the lead with a penalty. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Ursula Lohn increased it to 2-0 and it looked like a victory for the DFB-Elf. Only after 71 minutes was Andersson able to score the next goal. Loss of concentration in the final phase cost the German team the victory. Pia Sundhage and once again Andersson ensured the hosts win.
