Günther von Oetinger

Günther von Oetinger (born September 3, 1821 in Großfurra , † October 10, 1881 in Trier ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Günther was the son of the Prussian Rittmeister Gustav von Oetinger (1791–1824) and his wife Bertha, née von Wurmb (1802–1868).

Military career

Oetinger visited the Potsdamer cadet school and was on 15 August 1838 as the Sergeant of the 24th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army transferred. By mid-November 1840, he was promoted to second lieutenant . After his transfer to the 32nd Infantry Regiment at the end of March 1846, he was commanded to Sömmerda in June 1848 for training with the Dreyse needle gun . From March 1852 to August 1859 he was assigned as a company commander with the III. Battalion in the 32nd Landwehr Regiment to Naumburg (Saale) . As a captain , Oetinger was appointed company commander at the end of September 1859 and was assigned to the 32nd Combined Infantry Regiment at the beginning of May 1860. From this the 4th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 72 was formed on July 4, 1860 and Oetinger was appointed chief of the 1st company in Torgau . During the German War in 1866 he was commander of the occupation battalion in Naumburg (Saale) and took part as a major in the battle of Langensalza .

After the peace agreement, Oetinger was transferred to Wiesbaden on October 30, 1866 as commander of the 1st Battalion in Infantry Regiment No. 80 . He led his battalion in the war against France in 1870/71 as a lieutenant colonel in the battles of Weißenburg , Wörth and Sedan , the siege of Paris and the bombardment of Pfalzburg . Awarded with both classes of the Iron Cross, he was commissioned after the Peace of Frankfurt on June 20, 1871, to lead the 3rd Hessian Infantry Regiment No. 83 in Kassel . November 4, 1871 to September 14, 1876, he was, since mid-January 1872 Colonel , Commander of this association . Then Oetinger was transferred to Trier under position à la suite of the regiment and appointed commander of the 31st Infantry Brigade . In this capacity he received the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves in mid-September 1877 . He died while exercising his service on October 10, 1881.
