Gabriele Giordano Caccia (born February 24, 1958 in Milan , Italy ) is an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman, archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Gabriele Caccia received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Milan on June 11, 1983 through Carlo Maria Cardinal Martini SJ . He then worked there as a pastor until 1986 . He was then released for postgraduate studies at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy , where he obtained a licentiate in canon law . In 1991 he was at the Pontifical Gregorian University with a thesis entitled "Faith and its object, Training in Christianity 'by Søren Kierkegaard " to Dr. theol. PhD .

On June 1, 1991, he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and initially worked at the Apostolic Nunciature in Tanzania . Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on July 24, 1992 . Since July 11, 1993 Caccia has been a member of the Substitute's Secretariat in the General Affairs Section of the Vatican State Secretariat . On December 17, 2002 he was appointed Assessor for General Affairs by John Paul II, and on the same day he was made Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . He was also a member of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia .

On July 16, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Sepino and apostolic nuncio in Lebanon . The episcopal ordination received his Benedict XVI. on September 12 of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB and the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , William Joseph Levada .

On September 12, 2017, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines by Pope Francis . Pope Francis appointed him permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations on November 16, 2019 .
