Gabriele Peus-Bispinck

Gabriele Peus-Bispinck (* 25. July 1940 in Münster as Gabriele Peus ) is a former German politician ( CDU ). She was a member of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1989 .

Life and work

Peus studied English , Romance languages and social sciences for teaching at the universities of Paris , London , Munich and Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1968 she passed the second state examination and completed her studies in 1973 with a doctorate. From 1969 she worked as a high school teacher for English , French and social studies , taught for a year at a school in Orléans , worked with young people in Washington State and as a development worker in Malawi and Mexico .

From 1978 to 1984 she was chairwoman of the state women's council of North Rhine-Westphalia , from 1978 UNICEF ambassador and from 1984 active for non-governmental organizations at the Council of Europe .

From 1985 to 1997 Peus was President of the European Association of Christian Teachers and has been Honorary President since then.

Peus is widowed, has two step-sons, three grandchildren and lives in Münster. She is the diocesan chairwoman of the Catholic German Women's Association (KDFB) in the diocese of Münster .

Peus joined the CDU in 1970. From 1987 to 2001 she was a member of the state executive committee of the women's union and headed the European working groups of the CDU Münster and the women's union NRW.

She is chairwoman of the Münster district association of the Senior Citizens 'Union , deputy chairwoman of the Münsterland district association, has been an assessor in the federal board since 2008 and has been vice-president of the European Senior Citizens' Union since 2013 .

In the European elections in 1984 she was elected to the European Parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia and belonged to the parliamentary group of the European People's Party . In 1987 she became deputy chairman of the Petitions Committee and was a member of the Committee on Youth, Culture, Education, Information and Sport (until 1987) and the Committee on Energy, Research and Technology (from 1987). In the European elections in 1989 , she missed re-entry into parliament.
