Gastón Norberto Gaudio (born December 9, 1978 in Buenos Aires ) is a retired Argentine tennis player . His nickname is El gato (Eng .: the cat ). Gaudio celebrated his greatest sporting success in 2004 when he won the individual title at the French Open .
Career
In the first all-Argentine final in the history of the French Open , he defeated Guillermo Coria 0: 6, 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 1 and 8: 6. Along with Mats Wilander in 1982 and Gustavo Kuerten in 1997, he is one of three players who won the French Open as an unseeded player.
With this victory, Gaudio reached the top 10 of the ATP world rankings for the first time in his career .
In August 2011, Gastón Gaudio officially announced his retirement from professional tennis after having not played a match for a year.
