The Gaulskopf near Espa in the Hessian district of Gießen is 474  m above sea level. NN high elevation in the Taunus low mountain range .

Geographical location

The Gaulskopf is located in the eastern Hintertaunus . The wooded mountain rises in the Taunus Nature Park directly west of Espa and on average just under 3 km northeast of the Gickel ( 505.1  m ) and Hesselberg (approx.  518  m ), the highest elevation in the northeastern Hintertaunus. The Kleebach rises south-east of the Gaulskopf, on the outskirts of Espa . The Schorn, 2 km away, with a height of around 450  m , near Cleeberg , is a northwest branch of the Gaulskopf.

Natural allocation

The Gaulskopf belongs to the natural area main unit group Taunus (number 30) and in the main unit Östlicher Hintertaunus (302) to the natural area Bodenroder Kuppen (302.2), with the natural area Wetzlarer Hintertaunus (302.0) connecting to the north .

Mining

From the 15th century to the 19th century, there was intensive mining for copper , silver and lead on the Gaulskopf, most recently on the Silbersegen and Amalie mines .
