Georg-Rainer Köttstorfer (born August 2, 1981 in Rosenheim ) is a former German ice hockey player and today's ice hockey referee, who last played in the 2012/13 season for the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg from the German Ice Hockey League . Since the end of his active career, Köttstorfer has been a referee for the German Ice Hockey Federation.

Career

The defender , who can also be used as a striker, gained his first experience at a higher level with Jungadler Mannheim , for whom he played in the Oberliga Nord in the 1999/2000 season. Here the left-shooter was able to score seven goals and a total of 14 points in 41 games. In addition, he had to serve only 20 penalty minutes, which is unusual for a player of his size, as these are often used for body play.

At the age of 17, Köttstorfer took part in the U18 World Cup in 1999 , where he made six appearances, in which, however, he could not score. In the summer of 2000, the defender ventured to North America, where he was on the ice for the Valley Junior Warriors in the junior league EJHL . After the important experience abroad, Rainer Köttstorfer signed a contract with Schwenninger Wild Wings for the 2002/03 season , where he became a regular player in defense after Jochen Molling's financially-related departure to Hamburg Freezers . With a defensive game he was able to convince and finally came to 48 DEL matches. The Bavarian-born scored his first DEL goal against the Krefeld Pinguine when he scored the consolation goal in the 7-1 victory of KEV in the Wild Wings home game . Three scorer points with only 18 penalty minutes and his plus / minus balance of −10 were among the best values in the weakest team in the main round. In addition, the defender played six play-down games with the Wild Wings , in which the team was able to keep the class against the much better-filled Frankfurt Lions . However, after the season the economic end followed through bankruptcy proceedings that had already been opened, which resulted in the exclusion of Wild Wings from the DEL, whereupon Köttstorfer switched to the second division EV Duisburg with a development license for the Krefeld Pinguine .

At the beginning of the 2003/04 season , the defender got the first ice time in Krefeld after he was used by coach Butch Goring in the fourth row. Due to the prerogative of EV Duisburg regulated in the contract, the Bavarian was almost exclusively in the second division this season, where he scored eight goals in 47 appearances and gave 13 assists. At the end of the season, the sporting director Franz Fritzmeier finally brought the defender to Krefeld, where he became a regular player. For the 2007/08 season , Rainer Köttstorfer finally signed a contract with league rivals Hannover Scorpions , where he played until the 2009/10 season and won the German championship in 2010.

For the 2010/11 season and the 2011/12 season he played for the Hamburg Freezers before moving to the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg for the 2012/13 season. There he played only seven games due to injury, which meant that his contract was not extended at the end of the season. Köttstorfer then ended his professional career due to the injury in order to work as an ice hockey referee.
