Georg Balthasar von Normann (born April 3, 1721 on Tentzerow ; † May 14, 1795 in Ueckermünde ) was a Prussian major general , chief of the Dragoon Regiment No. 4 and heir of Poppelwitz on Rügen .

His parents were Bogislav Balthasar von Normann , heir to Tentzerow and Hohenmocker , and his wife Anna, née von York.

Military career

Normann came on November 30, 1737 as a private corporal in the Dragoon Regiment No. 5 and was promoted to ensign on December 18, 1740 . In the First Silesian War he fought in the battle of Chotusitz and became second lieutenant on August 11, 1742 . In the Second Silesian War Normann fought near Hohenfriedberg and Kesselsdorf . On September 18, 1751, he became a prime lieutenant .

During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Lobositz and Torgau , was then wounded in combat during the dry sand and was involved in the sieges of Prague and Olomouc . On November 4, 1758 he was staff captain and on April 25, 1761 captain and squadron chief . After the war he became major on June 8, 1769 and took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . Then Normann became regimental commander on March 26, 1781. On May 20, 1782 he became a lieutenant colonel and in June 1782 received the order Pour le Mérite . On September 2, 1784 he was ordered to the autumn maneuvers in Potsdam. On May 30, 1786 he received 2000 thalers from the king in recognition of the good behavior of his regiment. To this end, he was promoted to General Inspector of the Pomeranian and New Mark cavalry on May 30, 1788, and received an allowance of 500 thalers as an inspector from June 26, 1788. On January 31, 1789 he was appointed chief of the Dragoon Regiment No. 4 and on May 19, 1789 promoted to major general. Shortly before his resignation on November 12, 1792, he received the Great Red Eagle Order on July 14, 1792 . On his resignation he received a pension of 1000 thalers.

Normann died unmarried on May 14, 1795 in Ueckermünde , but adopted the son of his sister Balthasar Ernst Alexander Ferdinand von Kahlden . This was a lieutenant in Dragoon Regiment No. 5 and a knight of the order Pour le Mérite. On December 4, 1789, he had received permission to call himself Kahlden von Normann.
