Georg Bernhard Petrus Graf von Mellin (born November 13, 1704 in Reval , † December 5, 1785 in Schöning) was a Prussian major general and heir of Damkow, Kesow, Schönenfelde and Schöning.

Life

His parents were the Swedish major general and district administrator in Estonia Bernhard Johann von Mellin (* May 5, 1659 in Vahnerow ; † December 14, 1733 in Toal ) and his wife Anne Helene, née von Wrangel (* January 7, 1676; † 8. March 1709 in Reval).

Military career

In 1719 Mellin was employed as a private corporal in the “Anhalt-Zerbst” infantry regiment of the Prussian Army . Here Mellin passed the officer positions until he became captain and company commander on August 27, 1737 . As such, he took part in the 1744/45 campaign in the sieges of Prague and Cosel as well as the battle of Hohenfriedberg and the battle near Jaromir, in which he was wounded. On October 13, 1752, he was promoted to major . In the 1756/59 campaign , Mellin fought near Reichenbach, Prague, Breslau , Leuthen , Domstadtl , Zorndorf and Hochkirch . Here Mellin was badly wounded as the commander of his regiment and was taken prisoner in Austria. From this Mellin was released in January 1759 and he then returned to his regiment. There followed on February 25, 1759, after he had already become lieutenant colonel in December 1758 , his promotion to colonel . After the Treaty of Hubertusburg, Mellin took office as major general on August 6, 1763 and spent the rest of his life on his property.

He was married since June 23, 1740 to Anna Ulrike Eleonore von Mellin (born January 11, 1718 in Boldevitz , † April 29, 1797 in Garz), the daughter of his uncle Karl Gustav von Mellin. The couple had the following children:
