Georg Zeidler

Georg Ulrich Theodor Zeidler (born August 6, 1860 in Braunschweig , † May 6, 1915 in Nieuwpoort in Flanders ) was a German architect , painter and university professor .

Life

Career

The son of August Zeidler, a cloth merchant from Braunschweig, and his wife Klara, b. Ramdohr, attended the Martino-Katharineum , where he graduated from high school in 1879. He studied structural engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig , where Constantin Uhde was one of his teachers. This was followed by two semesters in the class for nature studies at the Munich Art Academy . Zeidler was appointed government building supervisor ( trainee lawyer in the public building administration) in December 1885 . From 1887 to 1889 he worked in Colmar in the Army Construction Department. After passing the 2nd state examination in January 1891, he was appointed government master builder ( assessor in the public building administration), and until 1895 he worked in Berlin in the Prussian Ministry of Public Works . In Silesia he worked from 1895 to 1903 as a drafting and executive government master builder and agricultural inspector . In 1904 Zeidler received a call to the Technical University of Braunschweig as a full professor for freehand drawing, life drawing, ornamentation and applied arts . From 1908 to 1910 he was rector of the university. He was subsequently appointed Privy Councilor .

When the First World War broke out in 1914, Zeidler volunteered for military service as captain of the reserve . He worked as a trainer with the Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 208 , with whom he went into loss-making battles off Ypres , Diksmuide and Nieuwpoort. There he fell on May 6, 1915 as leader of the 3rd Battalion of Reserve Regiment 208.

Zeidler created numerous watercolors, charcoal drawings and oil studies, most of which are now in private hands.

family

During his time in Colmar, he met his wife Helene. She was the daughter of General Doctor Otto Wolff Rebenstein. Their marriage in 1891 resulted in two daughters and a son.
