George Jones

George Jones (born February 25, 1766 in Savannah , Province of Georgia , †  November 13, 1838 in Savannah , Georgia ) was an English- American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ).

George Jones, whose father Noble Wimberly Jones was a delegate to the Continental Congress , studied medicine and practiced this subject for several years. He took part in the American War of Independence and was temporarily imprisoned in England.

Jones later served as an MP in the House and Senate from Georgia . In 1812 he took part in the British-American War . After the death of Abraham Baldwin , Jones succeeded him in the United States Senate on August 27, 1807 , until William Harris Crawford succeeded on November 7, 1807. From 1812 to 1814 he succeeded William Bellinger Bulloch as Mayor of Savannah.
