Georgenwerk ( Polish: Bukowo ) is a town in Upper Silesia . Georgenwerk is located in the municipality of Murow in the Powiat Opolski ( Opole district ) in the Polish Voivodeship of Opole .

Georgenwerk is located approx. 14 kilometers northeast of the municipality seat Murow and approx. 35 kilometers north of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole .

The street village is located in the middle of extensive forest areas that belong to the Stobrawski Landscape Protection Park . The Jełowa – Kluczbork railway with the Bukowo stop runs east of Georgenwerk .

Neighboring places

To the north of Georgenwerk is Nowa Bogacica (German: Karlsgrund ). In the south lies the village Dambinietz (Polish: Dębiniec ) belonging to the same municipality .

history

The place was founded as a colony from 1772/73 as part of the Frederician colonization. 20 colonists were settled. In 1784 the place had 90 inhabitants. In 1793 the Protestant school was opened with a teacher. In 1845 there were 36 houses and 297 residents in the colony, 144 of whom were Protestant. In 1861 there were 204 Catholics and 167 Protestants in Georgenwerk. The place did not have its own church, the Catholics were parish in Alt Budkowitz and the Protestants in Plümkenau.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 282 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and nine for Poland. Georgenwerk remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 337 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 314 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration, was renamed Bukowo and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 Bukowo became part of the Opole Voivodeship . With the entry into force of the peace settlement of the Two-Plus-Four Treaty in 1991, the Polish administration of the place ended and the place became part of Poland. However, this had already been confirmed by the individual German states with the Görlitz Agreement and the Warsaw and Moscow Treaties . In 1995 the Catholic Church was consecrated. In 1999 Bukowo became part of the re-established Powiat Opolski .

In March 2009, the place was also given the official German place name Georgenwerk .
