Grabczok (1936–1945 Buchendorf (Upper Silesia) ) is a village in Upper Silesia . Grabczok is located in the municipality of Murow in the Opolski powiat in the Polish Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

Grabczok is located about three kilometers south of Murow, and about 22 kilometers north of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole . The street village is completely surrounded by extensive forest areas that belong to the Stobrawski Landscape Protection Park .

The municipality seat Murow (Polish: Murów ) is located north of Georgenwerk . In the south lies the town of Brinnitz, which belongs to the municipality of Lugnian ( Brynica in Polish ). West of Grabczok lies the community to Pokój belonging village Ładza (dt. Salzbrunn).

history

John the Baptist Church

The Grabczok was founded in 1772 by the Czanorwanz monastery. Initially ten houses were built. The settlers were commissioned to mine sand for the Murow glassworks. In 1784 the name Grabczok is mentioned for the first time.

In 1818 a school was established in the village. In 1845 there was a Catholic school, a sub-forestry and 34 other houses in the village. In the same year 236 people lived in Grabzok, six of them Protestants. In 1874 the Murow District was founded, to which Grabczok was incorporated.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 184 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 97 for Poland. Grabczok remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 447 inhabitants. On June 8, 1936, the place was renamed Buchendorf (Upper Silesia) . In 1939 the place had 470 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration, was renamed Grabczok and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship and in 1999 to the re-established Powiat Opolski .
