Geraldine Ostroot

Geraldine Caroline Ostroot Tweet (born April 10, 1914 in Lake Preston , South Dakota , † January 27, 1996 in Bartlesville , Oklahoma ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

Geraldine Caroline Ostroot was born in 1914 as the daughter of Gabriel J. Ostroot (1880-1947) and his wife Ida Teolina (1883-1959), née Larson, in Kingsbury County . She had at least one sister named Norma and one brother named Gabriel Warren (1918-1993). Her childhood was overshadowed by the First World War . Ostroot graduated from high school. She then studied at Augustana College , where she earned a Teachers Certificate in 1936 . From 1937 to 1945 she taught in schools in South Dakota. The Great Depression and the Second World War that followed overshadowed these years.

Around 1945 she moved to Pierre ( Hughes County ), where she was politically active. Ostroot was very active in the Republican Party and held a number of offices there. She served as Secretary of State of South Dakota from 1951 to 1957 . During this time she was listed on Who's Who of American Women .

On August 28, 1956, she married her husband Noel Tillman Tweet (1905-1992). The marriage remained childless. They moved a few times after their wedding. Her husband died on 20 August 1992 in San Antonio ( Texas ) and Geraldine on 27 January 1996, Bartlesville (Oklahoma). Geraldine was buried next to her husband in Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville.
