Studies and professional career

After Veringa briefly lectured at Manhattan College in New York City in 1949, he returned to the Netherlands and between December 1949 and February 1952 was initially a research assistant to PJ Bouman at the University of Groningen, before becoming a civil servant until January 1952 the Department of Prisons in the Ministry of Justice. He then became acting director of the special prison for young men in Zutphen and was then head of the Central Training Institute for Prisons in The Hague between October 1955 and March 1962 . Veringa, the chairman of the CIP in Dordrecht was, his political career began in local politics and was between September 1958 and April 1967 Member of the Municipal Council of Rijswijk . At the same time he was a member of the party executive committee of the KVP between 1965 and April 1967.

On February 1, 1972, he was appointed a member of the Council of State ( Raad van State ) Veringa by royal decision of Queen Juliana , and was a member of this constitutional body to advise the government for 22 years until May 1, 1994. In this position he worked in 1977 as an informant for the - ultimately unsuccessful - formation of a second government by Joop den Uyl .
