Roger Gerhardy

Roger Gerhardy OSA (born June 4, 1944 in Lindau am Harz as Wilhelm Gerhardy ; † August 4, 2014 in Munich ) was a German religious priest , journalist and publicist . From 1999 to 2008 Gerhardy was director of the Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists (ifp) in Munich. He was prior of the Augustinian monastery Maria Eich in Planegg near Munich.

Life

Gerhardy occurred after graduating from the Johann-Philipp von Schönborn-Gymnasium in the Lower Franconian Münnerstadt 1964, the congregation of the Augustinians in Fährbrück near Würzburg in, took the religious name of Roger and studied from 1965 to 1971 philosophy and theology at the Julius-Maximilians University Wurzburg . In 1971 he was ordained a priest in Würzburg .

As a student, he published the magazine Das Podium . Gerhardy was a volunteer at the weekly newspaper Deutsche Zeitung / Christ und Welt in Stuttgart . In 1973 Gerhardy became editor and in 1974 editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Maria vom guten Rat, published by the Augustinian order in Würzburg .

From 1999 to 2008 he headed the Catholic School of Journalism (ifp) in Munich. Until his death, he was in the institute and led contemplation weekends for volunteers and scholarship holders. Gerhardy was a member of the ifp sponsoring association and a member of the advisory board of the KNA-Promedia-Stiftung , which is committed to promoting young journalists.

He also worked as a freelancer for Bavarian radio , magazines and newspapers. Gerhardy also published several books and wrote reports from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and European countries. For many years he was the author of spiritual impulses for the radio editorial team of the Sankt Michaelsbund . He was also engaged as a photographer, mountain guide and travel storyteller.

In 2011 Gerardy became prior of the Augustinian convent and curate of the pilgrimage “ Maria Eich ” in Planegg near Munich.

Roger Gerhardy died in August 2014 at the age of 70 of complications from cancer in the palliative care unit of the Barmherzigen Brüder hospital in Munich .
