Political Enlightenment Society

The Society for Political Enlightenment ( GfpA ) is an association of several people with different political orientations, founded in September 1982, with the aim of promoting the quality of Austrian democracy . Organizationally and scientifically, the company is linked to the Political Science Institutes of the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna .

The members, who work in different professional fields, see Austria's democracy as the answer to the wrong turns of the 20th century, especially to National Socialism . The GfpA sees itself first and foremost as a platform against right-wing extremism and is committed to solidarity and responsibility in the political, social and cultural fields as well as to a greater sensitivity to everyday racism , violations of human rights and discrimination against social groups. It is committed to promoting democratic quality and dealing responsibly with Austrian history.

Fields of activity

The GfpA is active throughout Austria and, among other things, carries out projects and events in cooperation with partner organizations. Various workshops, exhibitions and seminars are held to reach people of all ages and social classes. For example, there is an annual trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial .

history

In the mid-1980s, Andreas Maislinger organized three two-semester series of lectures at the University of Innsbruck. Under the title “Narrated History”, Klaus Hornig, Erwin Gostner, Otto John , Friedl Volgger , Bishop Paulus Rusch , Fritz Molden , Friedrich Reitlinger and Zdenek Mlynar spoke . The question about possible prejudices in Tyrol tried u. a. Sigurd Paul Scheichl , Anton Pelinka , Alexander Langer , Walter Guggenberger , Hans Haid and Andreas Pribersky to answer. Ernst Bruckmüller , Leopold Steurer , Alexander Langer, Anton Pelinka, Christoph Hartung von Hartungen a . a. talked about possible dangers for democracy in North and South Tyrol.
