Christoph Hartung von Hartungen (historian)

Christoph Hartung von Hartungen (born January 9, 1955 in Brixen ; † February 23, 2013 in Pflersch ; according to family counting Christoph VII. ) Was an Italian , German-speaking historian from South Tyrol .

Life

Hartung von Hartungen grew up in Barbian and Seis and attended the Franciscan high school in Bozen . He then studied German and history at the University of Innsbruck . In 1985 he received his doctorate with a social history dissertation on people and institutions in the Tyrol of Vormärz , supervised by Gerhard Oberkofler . From 1989 until his death he worked as a history teacher at the Walther von der Vogelweide Humanist High School in Bolzano and was active as a consultant in adult and teacher training. His scientific work focuses on Tyrolean history and South Tyrolean contemporary history .

Hartung von Hartungen was initially politically involved in the South Tyrolean student body and the South Tyrolean Social Democratic Party , and from 2000 to 2005 he was a member of the Bolzano municipal council for the South Tyrolean Greens . From 2006 to 2013 he was chairman of the German department of the South Tyrolean school board .

Christoph Hartung von Hartungen died during a tobogganing trip in Ladurns ( Pflersch , Brenner community ) on February 23, 2013. In 2014 - together with the South Tyrolean historian Veronika Mittermair , who also died early - a contemporary historical publication was dedicated to him.
