Giulio Einaudi
Giulio Einaudi (born February 11, 1928 in San Damiano Macra , Province of Cuneo , Italy , † December 28, 2017 in Cuneo ) was an Italian clergyman , Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
Giulio Einaudi, son of a farming family, attended the minor seminary of St. Augustine and studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of St. Nicholas in Saluzzo . On 29 June 1951 he received by Bishop Egidio Luigi Lanzo in the cathedral of Saluzzo the priesthood . He was first a chaplain in Saluzzo and then studied theology and canon law at the Gregorian University and the Lateran University . After training at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy , he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on August 1, 1960. He was secretary of the nunciature in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore with seat in Bangkok (1960-1965) and in the nunciature in the United States of America with seat in Washington DC (1965-1971), councilor in Rwanda and Burundi with seat in Kigali and Bujumbura (1971–1974) and Nunziaturrat in Portugal based in Lisbon (1974–1976).
Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 10, 1976 as Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Pakistan and Titular Archbishop of Villamagna in Tripolitania . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Agnelo Rossi , ordained him episcopal on January 2nd of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Domenico Enrici , Official of the State Secretariat , and Antonio Fustella , Bishop of Saluzzo.
Einaudi was Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Pakistan from 1976 to 1980 and Visitor in Afghanistan with seat in Islamabad, from 1980 to 1988 nuncio in Cuba with seat in Havana, from 1988 to 1992 nuncio in Chile with seat in Santiago and from 1992 to 2003 nuncio in Croatia with headquarters in Zagreb.
Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on August 4, 2003. He was pastor in the diocese of Saluzzo in the parishes of Busca and in Valle Maira . He was awarded the honorary citizenship of Busca in 2008.
