Giuseppe Donnaloia

Giuseppe "Pino" Donnaloia (born February 5, 1967 in Duisburg ) is an Italian painter , graphic artist , caster , stone sculptor , restorer and lecturer . He is the developer of sectionism in painting, a new color and composition formula based on mathematical calculations.

Giuseppe Donnaloia lives and works in Düsseldorf and Calci in Tuscany .

education

Giuseppe Donnaloia was born in Duisburg as the son of guest workers from Apulia . From 1981 to 1983 he attended the artistic high school in Florence and then moved to Monopoli in Apulia from 1983 to 1984 for an extended art course .

In 1985 he went back to his family in Duisburg and worked in Cologne as an art foundry in the Luigi Lotito art foundry and continued to work as a freelance painter . Within four years he completed his German specialist training as a stone mason and stone sculptor . He is a founding member of the producer gallery 68elf in Cologne, from which the non-profit art association 68elf emerged in 2010 .

life and work

After his time in Germany, Donnaloia began his relocation phase to Italy and finally to Tuscany from 1992 to 1996. During this time he developed his own color and composition formula for his painting.

During these years he was involved in restoration work on well-known German and Italian art and architectural monuments. Years of experience as a restorer for works by Federighi , Vecchietta , Raffael , Donatello or Niccolò and Giovanni Pisano enabled him to study the old masters practically, directly on their work.

In 2005 he began studying with Markus Lüpertz at the Bad Reichenhall Art Academy . From 2009 he also studied with Omar Galliani at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara .

With what he himself called “sectionism”, he led his painting through pure colors, strict contrast calculations and hard drawing of the composition to balanced, stylish paintings. Themes, colors, techniques and compositions are meticulously worked out using a mathematical formula. Large works are created according to clear rules based on one detail. His oeuvre shows landscapes, human and animal silhouettes and bones. Donnaloia mixes perception with fantasy and naturalism with abstraction.

In 2008 Donnaloia was named the winner of the contemporary art competition MOVI Arte by Vigonza and was a finalist for the ARTE LAGUNA Prize 2008 in the painting section.

In 2009 Donnaloia began working professionally with Hermann Albert and Markus Lüpertz, for whom he created several sculptures and with whom he still works today.

In 2011 he was awarded the Combat prize Livorno for the painting "Settimo II". This was followed by numerous art exhibitions in Germany, Italy and France.

On January 26, 2017, the installation “We will call out your name” was selected for the Holocaust Remembrance Day and presented in the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus of the German Bundestag in Berlin. “We will call out your name” is based on the Jewish Kaddish prayer. The installation, consisting of 5 large paintings and 400 hand-painted sculptures, was exhibited to the public in the Villa Oppenheim in Berlin after its presentation in the Bundestag .

From June 2017 to September 2017 the installation “We will call out your name” was selected by the Ragghianti Foundation in the exhibition “Il passo sospeso Esplorazioni del Limite” in the museum of the cathedral in Lucca and exhibited in the context of other contemporary artists.
