Scandals
- The journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi accused Sciacca in the 2015 unveiling book Everything must be brought to light of the ruthless treatment of a sick neighbor, an elderly priest. In 2012, Sciacca wanted to enlarge his apartment in the Vatican, according to the author . When the neighbor was in the hospital for a long time, Sciacca had the partition between the two apartments torn down without permission and expanded his apartment to include a room from the neighboring apartment. The priest, who died a short time later, found his belongings packed in boxes on his return from the hospital. According to Nuzzi, the Pope had demoted Sciacca and had him removed from the apartment when he learned of the incident. At least there is no clear evidence of degradation; In the summer of 2013, Sciacca switched from the governorate to the apostolic signature, but was promoted to secretary of this court in 2016.
- As secretary of the Apostolic Signature, Sciacca signed a judgment in the spring of 2019, with which the Austrian religious priest and former senior staff member of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , Father Hermann Geißler FSO , was acquitted of the accusation of sexual harassment of a religious sister during confession for lack of evidence. The former religious woman Doris Wagner , who had belonged to the institute “Das Werk” (FSO) until 2011, criticized Sciacca's participation in the process, as he is friendly to the community “Das Werk” according to her presentation and has received gifts from him in the past Should have received medals. Within the Vatican, like Sciacca himself, Geissler is counted as part of the network of the former secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and later cardinal state secretary Tarcisio Bertone, to whom both owe their careers.
