Giv'atajim ( Hebrew גִּבְעָתַיִם Givʿatajīm , German 'two hills' , Plene גבעתיים, Arabic جفعاتايم, DMG Ǧifʿātāyim ) is a city in Israel . It is located east of Tel Aviv and belongs to the Gush Dan metropolitan area . The name of the city means "two hills" because the city center lies between two hills. The top of a third hill is the highest point of Gush Dan at 80 m above sea level. The quality of life in Givʿatajim is generally among the highest in Israel. Although it is right in the center of busy Gush Dan, the city has relatively quiet streets and neighborhoods.
history
Givʿatajim was founded in 1922 by a group of immigrants from the 2nd Aliyah under David Schneidermann. After several neighboring settlements were incorporated, Givʿatajim received the status of a local government in August 1942 . 1959 Givʿatajim received the status of a city administration .
In October 2015, the Givʿatajim community suspended renovation work on a city school because Palestinians with Israeli citizenship were being used there. The city council also called on cleaning companies to use Israeli workers in the city's schools instead of the Palestinian workers from East Jerusalem.
