Global Competitiveness Report
The Global Competitiveness Report ( GCR ) is a ranking of the economies with the highest growth opportunities, compiled by the World Economic Forum (WEF) . 144 national economies are analyzed. The report is based on the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) . The index includes: data on infrastructure, health, education, efficiency of the goods markets, labor market efficiency, degree of technological development, etc. The classification is based on the evaluation of publicly available data and surveys of business leaders. Critics emphasize that the GCR has only very limited predictive power and therefore recommend a modification of the GCI.

2012-2013
The twelve top placements were again dominated by Northern European countries in 2012. In 2007, the US topped the list. In the past four years, Switzerland has been at the top. In 2012, Germany overtook the USA for the first time: Germany was in sixth place, the USA in seventh. Germany received praise for its innovative strength and good infrastructure. In the “flexibility of wage setting” category, however, Germany only ranks 139th out of 144 places, and protection against dismissal was also rated poorly.
