The Globe Arena is a football stadium in the English city of Morecambe , Lancashire , United Kingdom . The FC Morecambe football club has welcomed its opponents here since it opened. It replaced the Christie Park venue opened in 1921 . The Globe Arena has 6,476 spectator seats; there are 2,173 seats. The sponsor name goes back to the executing construction company Globe Construction .
history
Construction work began on May 9, 2009 with the earthworks. At the beginning of August 2010, the majority of the construction work was done and the last interior work was done. The first football game in the stadium was played on August 10, 2011 in front of 4,002 spectators from Morecambe FC and Coventry City . The game of the first round of the League Cup ended with the hosts' 2-0 victory.
The covered main grandstand Peter McGuigan stand in the south is named after the club chairman of Morecambe FC. It is the only one of the grandstands with seats; the other three tiers are pure standing ranks. At the east end of the main stand there is also a seating block for visitors to the opposing team. The Omega Holidays stand is the larger of the two stands in the back and is named after a tour operator from the region. It has the largest audience capacity with 2,234 seats and is available for home fans. The guest fans are at home on the covered Bay Radio stand , which bears the name of a radio station. The uncovered counter tier Open Terrace consists of a narrow, six- tiered standing crossbar ; which is divided in the middle.
The stadium is equipped with modern facilities. In the main stand on the first floor u. a. the changing rooms, medical rooms, a fitness studio, offices, a bar, a fan shop and the reception area. On the second floor there are conference and event rooms for up to 200 people. There are u. a. Conferences, family celebrations, school balls through to weddings including catering. The private boxes are on the third floor.
Visitor record and average attendance
The record attendance dates back to August 24, 2010, when Morecambe FC and Burnley FC met (1: 3). The match of the second round of the League Cup attracted 5,003 spectators to the stadium.
