The Gmina Kartuzy [ karˈtuzɨ ] is a town-and-country municipality in the powiat Kartuski of the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . Its seat is the small town of Kartuzy ( German Karthaus ; Kashubian Kartuzë ) with 14,716 inhabitants (2016).

The city is located in the historical Pomeranian landscape , in the lake-rich Kashubian Switzerland , about 32 kilometers west of Gdansk .

history

The area of ​​the municipality belonged to the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship from 1920 to 1939 . Kartuzy received city rights in 1923.

From 1975 to 1998 the municipality was part of the Gdansk Voivodeship .

Until 1994 or 2000 there was a connection to the Pruszcz Gdański – Łeba railway , which was closed for reasons of profitability. Since October 1, 2015, there has been regular local passenger transport from Kartuzy to the Gdańsk Wrzeszcz long-distance train station (Danzig-Langfuhr) . The place Kiełpino in the municipality has a stop on the Nowa Wieś Wielka – Gdynia railway line .
