Godziszów ( German Godischau or Godzischau ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality of Goleszów in the powiat Cieszyński of the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .
geography
Godziszów is located in the Silesian Foothills ( Pogórze Śląskie ), about 20 km west of Bielsko-Biała and 60 km south of Katowice in the powiat (district) Cieszyn.
The village has an area of 560 hectares .
Neighboring towns are Kisielów in the north, Bładnice in the east, Kozakowice Górne in the southeast, Goleszów in the southwest, Ogrodzona in the west.
history
The village is located in the Olsa area (also Teschener Silesia , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1445 in a sentence na mezy Godyessowske a Golessowske hranyczi . The name is derived from the first name of the original owner Godzisz (≤ Godzimir , Godzisław ).
Politically, the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , the feudal lordship of the Kingdom of Bohemia , and from 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg Monarchy .
After the abolition of patrimonial from 1850 it was a municipality in Austrian Silesia , Bielitz district and Skotschau judicial district . In the years 1880–1910 the population increased from 412 in 1880 to 525 in 1910, the majority were Polish-speaking (between 96.6% and 99.8%) and German-speaking (15 or 2.9% in 1910) . In 1910, 87.7% were Protestant, 11.2% Roman Catholic, there were 6 Jews.
In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the end of the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Godziszów came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
From 1975 to 1998 Godziszów was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
