The Gohlig (also Goldene Höhe ) is an elevation in the Erzgebirge foothills not far from Dresden in Saxony .

Location and surroundings

The "Göhlichtberg" on a map from the 18th century

The Gohlig rises five kilometers east of Freital and about seven kilometers south of Dresden . The districts of Rippien , Hänichen and Welschhufe of the municipality of Bannewitz extend on the gently sloping slopes of the elevation . The federal road 170 and the route of the Windbergbahn, which was closed in 1951, run along the western flank .

The nearby Lunapark was designed in 1998/99 by the AG Landschaftspflege of the municipality of Possendorf as a viewing point with seating.

Surname

The name Gohlig stands in Sorbian for “bare, unwooded height”.

geology

The summit of the mountain consists of ashlar sandstones , as they are also known from the Elbe Sandstone Mountains . The base of the mountain, however, consists of gneiss - conglomerates from the Permian of Döhlener basin . In the 19th century , coal seams switched on were the subject of lively mining.

history

Goldene Höhe excursion restaurant

The story goes back to 1200 BC. In 1929 two urn graves from the younger Bronze Age were discovered on the mountain .

In 1844, the Rippien farmer Traugott Baum started serving beer on Sunday at the top of the mountain. The Berggasthaus Goldene Höhe has been on the Gohlig since around 1900, and thanks to the nearby Hänichen-Goldene Höhe train station, it has developed into a popular excursion restaurant and ball establishment. The suspension of passenger traffic on the Windbergbahn in 1957 led to a decline in demand. After the restaurant was closed in 1965, the building fell into disrepair. As none of the planned uses could be implemented, the stone remains of the restaurant were moved to the nearby quarry. In the meantime, nature has reclaimed the area.

At the end of the 19th century, the hard coal works Persistence Shaft , Beckerschacht and Berglustschacht existed on the west and south sides , of which hardly any remains can be seen in the area. The sandstone mining, which had existed since around 1500, was stopped in 1914.

In 1865 a stone measuring point of the first order of the Central European degree measurement ( Nagelsche column ) was set up on the Gohlig . However, due to visibility problems to the neighboring survey points, the column was then used for the 2nd order network. The Nagelsche column was made on site from sandstone and is about four meters high. Between 2001 and 2006 it was restored by the Saxon Heritage Protection Association , Regional Group Goldene Höhe.

The construction of the two 1000 m³ water tanks began in 1920.

In 1993, a distinctive 63 meter high cell phone tower was built on Gohligweg not far from the mountain top .
