Gottlob Ernst von Pannewitz (* 1697 in Werben ; † March 11, 1765 in Cottbus ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the infantry regiment named after him "Pannewitz on foot" .

Life

origin

Gottlob Ernst was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm von Pannewitz (born November 20, 1656 in Klein Oßnig ; † June 18, 1720) and his wife Erna Marianne, née von Muschwitz . His cousin Nikolaus Sigismund (1700–1748) was a Prussian lieutenant colonel .

Military career

In 1713 Pannewitz was employed by the Prussian Army as a private corporal in "Hessen-Kassel on foot" . As a second lieutenant he took part in the siege of Stralsund during the Pomeranian campaign in 1715/16 . Pannewitz rose within the regiment in the years to come and became captain and company commander at the end of March 1731 . In the First Silesian War Pannewitz fought near Mollwitz , became major on May 14, 1741 and was then with Chotusitz . During the Second Silesian War , Pannewitz became a lieutenant colonel on October 27, 1745 and fought near Kesselsdorf in December of that year . After the end of the campaign, the king granted him a three-month vacation on his estate.

As a colonel , Pannewitz received command of the regiment from November 5, 1755 , with which he went to the Seven Years' War the following year . On February 16, 1757 he became major general and went with his regiment to the army in Saxony at the special disposal of the king . A little later the king appointed him chief of the “von Knobloch” infantry regiment. During the Battle of Kolin , Pannewitz was seriously injured in captivity and did not return to Neisse until May 1758 . Because of his poor health dimittierte Pannewitz on 10 February 1759 a pension of 1200 thalers . He died on March 11, 1765 in Cottbus.

possession

After the death of his father Friedrich Wilhelm von Pannwitz in 1720, the three sons Wolf Erdmann, Caspar Friedrich and Gottlob Ernst initially took over the Klein Gaglow estate in communione (jointly). In 1750 Gottlob Ernst became the sole owner. Since he was unmarried, the feudal estate (with male inheritance) was converted into an inheritance and allodial property, which he freely sold to Carl Heinrich Hackborn in 1764.
