Green Egg with Bacon (original title Green Eggs and Ham ) is an American animated series that premiered on November 8, 2019 on the video-on-demand portal Netflix . It is an adaptation of the children's book Green Egg with Speck: the very best by the author Theodor Seuss Geisel , better known as Dr. Seuss, from 1960. The German translation of the book was only published in 2011. The series was announced by Netflix on April 29, 2015, with the production of the first season taking a total of three years. This should actually start at the end of 2018, but has been postponed for a year.

After two segments from the television films Dr. Seuss on the Loose from 1973 and In Search of Dr. Seuss from 1994, Green Egg with Bacon is the third adaptation of the book, which was also the template for a game for the Game Boy Advance and a CD-ROM from Brøderbund .

On December 20, 2019, Netflix extended the series for another season.

action

Jack frees a so-called chicken giraffe from the Glurfsburg zoo because he wants to bring the rare animal back into its natural habitat. In a diner he meets the inventor Mick, who is always in a bad mood, as many of his constructions work well, but explode shortly after they are completed. Jack, who is always friendly and happy, wants to make friends with Mick immediately, which he doesn't really enjoy. The two accidentally swap their briefcases, which is why Mick now has the chicken giraffe. From now on, he and Jack have to flee from various people who absolutely want to get to the chicken giraffe. These are the arrogant and very wealthy businessman Hervnick Z. Snerz, McWinkle and his assistant Gluntz from the organization Böse Jungs and Bock, a bounty hunter. During their travels, Jack and Mick also meet the over-anxious Michellee, who works as a bean counter and is always worried about her very adventurous daughter EB. In addition, the characters have to deal with an eager narrator, his task very authorial performs.

A recurring theme in the plot is Jack's preference for fried green eggs with bacon. Although this food is widespread across the country, Mick repeatedly refuses to try it despite Jack's constant attempts to persuade him.

characters

  • Jack (originally Sam ) pretends to be an animal rights activist at the beginning of the series. In truth, however, he is a trickster who has already assumed many identities and smuggled various animals. Jack is very friendly and happy for that. His mother left him in an orphanage as a small child. He only knows that she used to fry him green eggs with bacon. That's why he always eats the food when he goes to a diner in one place, because he hopes to find his mother through his individual taste. In addition, he has no friends, as he appears extremely nice, but also very affectionate, which is why he lives alone in an isolated mobile home. To his chagrin, Jack immediately befriends Mick. When Mick accidentally takes the chicken giraffe, Jack saves him from his pursuers. In the course of time, a friendship slowly develops between the two, while Jack slowly begins to feel guilty about his job and finds a friend in little EB, who like him is also very imaginative.
  • Mick (originally Guy ) grew up in the town of Abzweig Ofenrohr. He is still revered there, as he received very good grades in high school and stood out for his technical talent and determination, including founding a club for young inventors and building a futuristic tree house in his garden. Mick is less fortunate in the present because he is quite capable of building working inventions, but which explode shortly afterwards. He also doesn't want to have anything to do with his family, who treat and support him lovingly, but for Mick this is pity, which he deeply displeases. At the beginning of the series, after another failure, Mick gave up all hope and wanted to work as a color viewer in Meepville. In the diner he meets the energetic Jack, which he is not exactly enthusiastic about, especially not when Jack gives him green eggs with bacon. Mick hates the dish, although he's never tried it, and prefers extra dry porridge. Mick is very cynical and sarcastic , especially towards Jack. When he is forced to cooperate with him, his nicer side gradually emerges from under his hard shell. He also falls in love with Michellee when she and her daughter EB cross paths with Jack and Mick.
  • The narrator not only fulfills his task, but also often ironically comments on the event. When actually telling the story, he only speaks in rhymes, when commenting he speaks normally. In addition, he sometimes reacts horrified or confused to the action, which is why he is sometimes speechless or loud. In addition, he sometimes makes fun of breaking the fourth wall , for example by speaking to Mick directly and telling him that he will go mad when he cannot see the narrator.
  • Hervnick Z. Snerz is a wealthy businessman who owns a large collection of exotic animals. As a child, he unintentionally treated his pet far too roughly, including almost crushing it during his hugs, which is why it eventually ran away. Since his mother didn't have the heart to tell him the truth, Hervnick wanted to heal his childhood trauma with more and more animals. They have to eke out their existence chained to a wall, his wig is also an animal named Flerz. He doesn't treat his employees well, doesn't care about their welfare, and orders them around under threats. At the beginning of the series he hires Sam to get him a chicken giraffe because it is still missing in his collection.
  • McWinkle is a bad guys bounty hunter and is about to retire. He has successfully completed 862 missions and is doing everything he can to intercept Jack the Chicken Giraffe. He is of a tall, broad stature, has a deep, rough voice and is always grumpy. His behavior often intimidates others, but despite his demeanor, he is a loyal partner to his helper Gluntz and indulgent when she is not to blame for failures. Its fur is actually blue, but with each failure it turns a little grayer. In the series world, unlike many other characters, he is serious and humorless. With his very logical thinking, he manages to stay on Jack and Mick's heels, even though they are often one step ahead of him.
  • Gluntz is McWinkle's young helper. Unlike him, she is silly, happy, friendly and very lively. She is still a good agent and has an easy time getting suspects to speak during field operations and interrogations. She also speaks all animal languages, which is why she manages to put Bock into a kind of trance and turn him off. She is easily distracted by what she thinks is cute and looks a bit clumsy, but finds out much sooner than McWinkle that they can trace Jack and Mick's tracks with the help of green eggs and bacon.
  • Michellee works as a bean counter in Glurfsburg. Her job can also be understood as a description of her personality, as she is overly cautious and more than caring towards her daughter EB. Michellee's husband died in an accident, which is why, despite her great talent, she gave up her job as a painter to take care of EB. Although she loves her daughter very much, her personality weighs on her relationship with one another. However, this improves as the two spend more time together and get to know each other better, which is why Michellee allows EB more freedom. Over the course of the series, she falls in love with Mick, who is actually even more boring than she is, but still has a wild and dangerous side that both attracts and scares Michellee.
  • EB is Michellee's daughter and wants to be independent, which her mother does not allow. EB is always looking for adventure and is very brave, but this often gets her into trouble due to her lively imagination and innocent way of thinking. EB is quite intelligent for her age and sometimes more sensible than her mother, but still often acts impulsively. In contrast to all the other characters, she knows a lot about chicken giraffes, as she is very fond of animals and Mr. Jenkins also gives his name. When she finds out that her mother is in love with Mick, she supports her feelings and encourages Michellee to enter into a relationship with him.
  • Michael Fox may be a fox, but he guards a chicken coop on a farm. He's wearing a tie to impress Sandra, a hen he's in love with, but not reciprocally. Therefore, he also eats corn and worms so that he is not tempted. Michael has to constantly fight against his urge to eat eggs or chickens, which he tries, among other things, through meditation. However, this suppression has made him unstable, which is why he suffers from withdrawal symptoms that make him very aggressive. Because of this, he quickly becomes violent and immediately attacks anyone who even mentions eggs or Sandra.
  • Mouse (originally Squeaky ) is in South Shvizleton prison for stealing a piece of cheese for his starving family. Although he is able to speak, due to his small body size, others only hear a high, unintelligible beep. He's pretty selfish in prison because he allows Jack and Mick to use his self-made escape tunnel, but doesn't tell them that the end of the tunnel is actually way too narrow for them. However, all three manage to escape from prison in the end, which reunites Mouse with his family. Because of his French accent, his offense and his penchant for singing, he is a parody of Jean Valjean .
  • Bock (in the original Goat ) works as a bounty hunter who is hired by Snerz to catch Mr. Jenkins. He is a biker and extremely brutal and unscrupulous in his work. His reputation precedes him, which is why many characters fear him, especially Jack. What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for in strength, which is why he often acts with brute force, for example destroying a ski lift and a ferry. Even an avalanche can only stop him for a short time, but there is a certain goat sound that numbs him for a long time.
  • Captain Bigman is McWinkles and Gluntz's supervisor. He has a fiery red coat, which goes well with his equally heated temperament. At first the impression arises that he is only called Bigman because of his position, but his name is actually Walter Bigman. He is barely bigger than a mouse and is extremely choleric. Because of their failures, he gives his employees very frequent and very loud lectures, which is why he rarely speaks normally and almost always screams whenever he can be seen.
  • Mr. Jenkins is a chicken giraffe who is hunted by several characters. Despite his enormous size, he is actually very peaceful and playful, but does not hesitate to use violence when his friends Jack and Mick are attacked and threatened by Bock. He is considered a wild beast in the first few episodes, but this is no longer taken up over the course of the season. He behaves like a dog, which is why EB considers him a pet, as he likes to fetch sticks and lick other people's faces. According to a legend, chicken giraffes prefer to eat souls, which is wrong, as Mr. Jenkins only eats ties that grow on trees on his home planet. Mr. Jenkins is terrified of fleas , and if he sees them, he will flee immediately.

When EB learns about the missing chicken giraffe, she wants to go to catch it, but Michellee stops her because the two also have to go to Meepville. Snerz, an influential businessman on Meepville, would like to see the chicken giraffe in his animal collection while McWinkle and his young assistant Gluntz, members of the Bad Boys organization , look for the animal. Meanwhile, Sam goes into his dilapidated and remote motor home, where he discovers that he has the wrong briefcase. McWinkle and Gluntz apparently receive a lecture from Snerz, Gluntz nevertheless remains optimistic and learns from McWinkle that he will withdraw from the business as soon as they have caught the chicken giraffe. You can trace the animal back to Jack's house when Mick arrives there. He is threatened by the two, but Jack comes to his aid, and the two flee with McWinkle's and Gluntz's car. Jack explains that he often frees animals from captivity and, like Mick, wants to go to Meepville. Mick no longer wants to spend time with the strange Jack, which is why he lets himself be dropped off in the desert. He stops Michellee's car, she doesn't want to take him, although EB insists on it. After a while, Mick hallucinates when he sees Jack's car, which has been secretly following him, and gets in disgruntled. 3 3 train Train Lawrence Gong Mark Rizzo

Jack explains that he had to destroy the car so it couldn't be traced. The vehicle is nevertheless found by McWinkle and Gluntz, when it is brought to the surface, the two find traces of the chicken giraffe, which is why they come to the conclusion that it must be on a train. Snerz also explains that he wants to impress his companions with the animal. In the meantime, Jack and Mick buy train tickets, which is why Mick, to his reluctance, has to stay with Jack longer. On the train they meet Michellee and EB, Jack treats them to green eggs and bacon. At night Jack sneaks out of his compartment with the chicken giraffe, where he is seen by EB, who is enthusiastic about the animal and calls it Mr. Jenkins. Mick and Michellee become friends in the sleeping car, and the narrator explains that they develop feelings for each other. In the morning Mick tells Jack that he doesn't want anything more to do with him. When he gets off the train, McWinkle and Gluntz stand in front of him.

Jack, Mick and Mr. Jenkins are forced to jump off the moving train and end up in a quarry. McWinkle and Gluntz ask the driver to drive back, but are thrown out because they have no tickets. In the meantime, Snerz invites his buddies to a gala where he wants to present the chicken giraffe to them. When EB tells Michellee that she and Jack were on the train roof, she is monitored by her mother even more closely than usual. Meanwhile, Jack and Mick discovered that Mr. Jenkins likes to eat ties. When they discover a farmhouse in the distance, they break into it. There are no ties in the house, but Michael, a fox who guards the green eggs and tries to impress a hen named Sandra, wears a tie. Michael has to fight against his preference for the eggs and meditates on it. When he is distracted, Jack and Mick break into his building and steal several ties. They succeed in doing this, but in the process they accidentally open a cupboard with green eggs, some of which break. Therefore, they are discovered by Michael, who angrily pounces on them.
5 5 dark Dark Lawrence Gong Jared Stern
Michael lets go of Jack and Mick and tearfully tells them about his love for green eggs and his contradicting love for Sandra. He lets them go with his ties on, on condition that they don't betray him. At sunset they see a motel sign, but this is thrown away in a junkyard, where Jack and Mick are stuck. They find an exit, but this is a pipe through which a poisonous liquid flows, and the two end up on a mountain of rubbish. While the narrator explains that Mr. Jenkins was separated from his mother, Mick admits to Jack that every one of his inventions so far has exploded and that he has lost all hope because of it. However, thanks to Jack's encouraging words, he succeeds in building an apparatus that enables them to continue their journey. Meanwhile, Michellee and EB get off the train and stay in a bed and breakfast. EB is bored there, especially since her mother does not respond to her imaginative reactions to her environment at all. She discovers a drawing by Mr. Jenkins that Michellee made to compensate for his loss. Jack, Mick and Mr. Jenkins arrive at a diner in Prince Pazookle, where a pet flea from a customer panics Mr. Jenkins, which causes him to break out of his briefcase and rage around the diner.

McWinkle and Gluntz find out that the animal is at the fair, which is why they go there and want to win it, but they find it difficult. Meanwhile, Michellee wants to drive with EB to the smallest thermometer in the world, which actually only she wants to see for herself. When EB accuses her mother of being boring and selfish, she is determined to prove her daughter wrong and takes her to the fair instead. Mick is swapping jobs with Jack there, which is why he is putting a waltz track into operation, on which Michellee and EB experience a very fast ride. Then he tries to get into conversation with Michellee, who is still mad at him. McWinkle and Gluntz want to go with Mr. Jenkins, Jack and Mick can save him. In his cell, Jack meets a mouse he calls Mouse. Mouse speaks with a French accent, but others only hear an incomprehensible squeak. He is imprisoned for stealing a piece of cheese for his starving family. Mick lets himself be arrested in the city, in the cell Mouse shows them an escape tunnel that he dug. McWinkle and Gluntz arrive at the prison and see the group climbing into the sewer. Jack, Mick, Mr. Jenkins and Mouse are far from prison again, where Mouse returns to his family. EB begs her mother to let the three of them sleep inside at least during the night, Michellee is finally persuaded. While McWinkle and Gluntz continue their search, Snerz hires the bounty hunter Bock to support them. Mick and EB try to dry Mr. Jenkins, while Jack helps Michellee prepare vegan green eggs with bacon from tofu. Mick and EB have trouble drying Mr. Jenkins with a giant blower, so EB uses her mother's jar of beans as an aid. In doing so, however, the glass is accidentally catapulted into the nearby forest. The two go into the woods while Jack distracts Michellee. During the search, EB finds out that Mick likes her mother, when they find the glass, giroosters stand in front of them, who hunt down anyone they consider to be inferior. Mick attacks them verbally with cynical criticism, which impresses them so much that they give them back the glass. In the house, Michellee panics when Jack accidentally reveals that he and Mick were in jail, but EB and Mick come in at that moment, distracting them and making them forget Jack's words. At the end of the episode, Bock takes over the hunt for the chicken giraffe.
9 9 Buck Goat Piero Piluso John Whittington

Then Bock attacks the hut, being distracted by Jack and Mick, who escape with Mr. Jenkins. They escape to a snow-covered mountain, where Mr. Jenkins is kidnapped by Bock. When Mr. Jenkins sees how the two are attacked by Bock, he takes all his courage and fends off Bock by pushing him down the mountain. The three take Bock's lost credit card and use it to buy bus tickets to the stovepipe junction, which worries Mick. Meanwhile, Snerz is interviewed for a magazine, he claims that his love of animals stems from the loss of his pet Flemur when he was a child, for which he blames his mother. The journalist then meets Snerz's mother, who tells him that Snerz's dedication to Flemur was too great and that the animal wanted to live in freedom, which she allowed him to do. McWinkle and Gluntz are saddened to find no clue until McWinkle remembers Jack's fondness for green eggs and bacon.
10 10 House House Lawrence Gong Jared Stern
While McWinkle and Gluntz follow Jack's footsteps, Bock survives an avalanche and continues his search for Mr. Jenkins. Meanwhile, Jack, Mick and Mr. Jenkins arrive at the stovepipe branch, where they want to rent a motel room. Everyone in town seems to know Mick, it turns out that Stovepipe is the town he was born in and that he was elected the student with the greatest chance of success in later life in high school. Mick doesn't want to visit his family because they consider him a loser, which is why he, Jack and Mr. Jenkins want to climb into his old tree house instead. There they are caught by Mick's family, who, contrary to what he claims, fully support him and his creative endeavors. Mick announces that he is no longer an inventor and wants to be a color observer, and then angrily retires to his tree house. Jack goes to him and admits that, unlike him, he has never had a family and has spent most of his life in an orphanage. The bizarre memories of his mother, which he talked about throughout the season, are all made up. Green eggs with bacon are his favorite dish because his mother used to cook them for him. He thought he would find his mother if he could taste the special preparation that is why he often eats at diners. Mick feels better because of Jack's descriptions and apologizes to him and his family. Shortly afterwards Jack also goes into the house and calls Snerz, it turns out that he should bring the chicken giraffe to him from the start.
11 11 boat Boat Lawrence Gong Vanessa McGee

On the ferry, Jack and Mick meet EB and Michellee again. While EB is delighted, Michellee is angry with Mick, although he apologizes because he and Jack briefly broke up with them. The ferry turns into a submarine and goes underground, with Mick and Michellee getting closer again. After talking to EB, Jack gets rid of his guilt and decides to save Mr. Jenkins. In Meepville, Michellee gives Mick her phone number when Bock suddenly appears, which is why Jack and Mick flee back into the boat. Bock capsizes the boat, Jack and Mick can get out in time, but Bock takes the briefcase with Mr. Jenkins and disappears.
12 12 There There Piero Piluso Mark Rizzo

He learns of McWinkle's and Gluntz's true identity, who take him to an interrogation room. There they inform him about Jack's various pseudonyms and his intention to sell Mr. Jenkins. Meanwhile, Michellee goes to the city art gallery with EB. Michellee used to work as a painter, but gave up this profession when her husband died in order to take better care of EB, which is why mother and daughter now understand each other better. Jack wants to free Mick, who is angry with him, which is made worse when he is offered green eggs with bacon again. Jack calls it a bit of a setback in their relationship and explains that he takes on different identities because no one has been friends with him long enough. Mick tells Jack that his mother didn't want him because he wouldn't suit anyone, not even her. That's why Jack goes sadly with Mr. Jenkins. Mick feels bad about his words, which is why he ruefully tells McWinkle and Gluntz about Snerz's intention to buy the chicken giraffe, and they let him go. Snerz organizes his gala, among whose guests are also EB and Michellee. When EB discovers Jack in the backstage area, she secretly follows him and is horrified to see how he sells Mr. Jenkins to Snerz.
13 13 Nowhere Anywhere Lawrence Gong Jared Stern
EB is heartbroken after selling Mr. Jenkins. She tries to free him, and in doing so, attracts the attention of both Michellee and Mick. The two quarrel again when they discover Snerz's pet collection. EB notices that the animal is actually a painted girooster, which puts Mick in relief. Mick, Michellee and EB are fleeing just as Snerz realizes the dizziness. They find Jack at a cold air balloon dock, where he plans to send Mr. Jenkins back home. He's still hurt by Mick's words, who makes it up to him by finally trying Green Eggs and Bacon, which, to his surprise, taste very good. McWinkle, Gluntz and Snerz also arrive at the square, where they follow the group up to a tower. There, EB and Michellee tie Snerz with one of their friendship bracelets, while McWinkle and Gluntz finish their mission when they learn of Jack's true intentions. Bock wants to flee with Mr. Jenkins in a balloon, but Mick can stop him with his misconstructed aircraft and save Mr. Jenkins, whereupon he is kissed by Michellee. Jack and Mick are later eating green eggs and bacon in a diner when Jack identifies the taste as his mother's. When he finds out that the eggs come from East Flurbia, he and Mick make their way there.
