The Gramme is a 30 kilometer long tributary of the Unstrut in Thuringia .

With the alleged saying of Martin Luther , who was demonstrably in Nohra in 1521, “ The Gramme rises in Nohre under the choir! “In the village of Nohra, the certainty that the Gramme already begins in Nohra has impressed itself , and this has led to the Gramme also being the namesake for the fields“ Before the Gramme ”and“ Behind the Gramme ”. The brook that connects the three village ponds and flows through Nohra from south to north is also referred to as Gramme in the cadastral maps.

To the north of the A4 motorway there are several sources and small watercourses: The Weimarbach comes from Ulla and flows into the Gramme in Hopfgarten "An der Gramme"; the Herbach from Isseroda flows south from the left into the Gramme; The Utzbach or Utzberger Bach rises near the Bechstedtstrasse windmill , which, in Utzberg, is partly underground, and joins the Gramme in the northwest of Hopfgarten . From here the Gramme flows in the direction of Niederzimmer .

Below the Hopfgarten watermill, the Gramme is dammed up into the " Hopfgarten Dam ", into which the Kratzbach flows from the right and drains the south-western slope of the Ettersberg with small tributaries . Since the Gramme is used extensively to irrigate the arable land of Hopfgarten and Niederzimmer, the dam was built for this purpose in the 1970s.

Then it crosses the western places of the administrative community Gramme-Vippach in the district of Sömmerda . The Gramme meanders in the Thuringian Basin through largely flat landscape, past Großrudestedt , where it is crossed by the Erfurt-Sangerhausen railway line , to Werningshausen , and then flows west of Wundersleben , which is west of Sömmerda , into the Unstrut from the right .

As a result of the medieval river regulation in the Unstrut region, the course of the river was channeled or relocated in various sections to drive mills and reclaim land. Before the Unstrut regulation, the mouth of the Gramme was south of Wundersleben, where it powered the watermill, which still exists today as a building complex.

Tributaries

A left tributary flowing into the Gramme in Großmölsen is the Linderbach . In Wallichen the ends of Vieselbach (both areas of Erfurt) from left coming Vieselbach in the messages. The Schmale Gera in Werningshausen also connects, which branches off from the main river of the Gera in Erfurt . Approx. 2 km north of Alperstedt , the Vippach finally flows into the Gramme as a right tributary.
