history

Before 1900

Archaeological finds about 500 m west of the church show that the area was settled in the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Germanic Era. The place Bechstete (so on a document from the year 860) was at a fork in the Salzstraße (between Gutendorf and Ollendorf via Niederzimmer ) and a path to Erfurt, which is why Bechtstedt has been using the addition "via" or "(an der) Straß “in distinction to Bechstedt-Wagd (Ilm district). The first farmsteads were grouped around a village square on the upper edge of which a church was built before 1000. The church was consecrated to the first Thuringian bishop Bonifatius . As documents from Fulda show, the imperial abbey had important goods in the Bechstedtstrasse area. There are three carved figures from Gothic altars that bear witness to the medieval wealth of the village. The village belonged to the city of Erfurt from the Middle Ages until 1815 , after which Bechstedtstrasse belonged to the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach ( Amt Vieselbach ). In the 16th century, Bechstedtstrasse was one of the most important forest villages in Erfurt. Waidsteine on the village green and the old gate of the Meierhof (Im Dorfe 17) are a reminder of this. In 1830 and around 1850 there were devastating fires in the village. During this time several families left for America . In 1884 the churchyard was closed as a cemetery. Burials have been taking place in the cemetery below the Angers since 1880.

21st century

On December 31, 2019, the municipality of Bechstedtstrasse merged with other municipalities to form the rural municipality of Grammetal. The administrative community Grammetal , to which all municipalities belonged, was dissolved at the same time.
