Grant Curtis Jennings (born May 5, 1965 in Hudson Bay , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 443 games for the Washington Capitals , Hartford Whalers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Toronto Maple Leafs and in the course of his active career between 1983 and 1998 Buffalo Sabers has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . In the service of the Pittsburgh Penguins Jennings, who embodied the player type of the Enforcer , won the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992 , celebrating his greatest career successes.

Career

Jennings, who was born in Hudson Bay and grew up in Melfort in the province of Saskatchewan , played at the beginning of his junior days initially until 1983 for a year with the Humboldt Broncos in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League . Then he was drawn to the higher-class Western Hockey League . There the defender played for the Saskatoon Blades for two years before he moved into the professional field.

Before the 1985/86 season , the 20-year-old signed, although he was not included in the NHL Entry Draft , as a free agent a professional contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League . There the defensive player played in the following three seasons for the farm team Binghamton Whalers , which was based in the American Hockey League . It was not until the Stanley Cup playoffs in 1988 that Jennings made his NHL debut for the capital club when he made his only appearance for the Capitals. In July 1988 Jennings left the organization of the Washington Capitals and moved together with Ed Kastelic to the league rivals Hartford Whalers , who in turn gave Mike Millar and Neil Sheehy to Washington. In the Hartford Whalers team, the defender became a regular player at the start of the 1988/89 season and had his most successful season with 13 points . Another year and a half game followed at Hartford before Jennings was sent to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a six-player transfer deal in March 1991 .

While Hartford received John Cullen , Jeff Parker and Zarley Zalapski , the Penguins secured not only Jennings but also the services of Ron Francis and Ulf Samuelsson , who turned out to be important building blocks for the successive Stanley Cup victories in 1991 and 1992 . Jennings was also part of both championship squads and belonged to the franchise for four years until April 1995, before he was given in exchange for Drake Berehowsky to the Toronto Maple Leafs . The Enforcer only played 14 games for the Canadians , as his expiring contract was not extended. He then moved to the 1995/96 season as a free agent for the Buffalo Sabers , where he only came to six missions during the season and also played a few missions for their farm teams.

Between 1996 and 1998 Jennings let his career end in the International Hockey League , where he retired from active sport after the stations in Rafales de Québec and San Antonio Dragons in the summer of 1998 at the age of 33 and a total of 443 NHL appearances.
