Gumping is a village and cadastral municipality in the municipality of Maissau in the Hollabrunn district . The village was founded in the early 11th century. Until December 31, 1967, Gumping was an independent municipality in the Horn district .
Gumping has 23 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). In 1855 the place had 84 inhabitants.
geography
Gumping is located on the northern ridge of the Manhartsberg on the eastern edge of the Waldviertel and west of Maissau, south of the Horner Straße B4 between Amelsdorf in the north and Reikersdorf in the southwest. The state road L1235 leads through Gumping. A direct connection to Maissau is via a forest path.
The Gumpingerbach flows through Gumping.
history
The village was founded in the early 11th century and belonged to the Maissau rulership, which formed a Fideikommiss with eight villages and three Meierhöfen (including Gumping) and three mills .

Until 1848, the respective landowner also owned the authorities in nine locations: City of Maissau, Ober-Dürnbach , Wilhelmsdorf , Baierdorf and Gettsdorf in the district below the Manhartsberg and Gumping, Reikersdorf , Sonndorf and Gottsdorf in the district above the Manhartsberg . The rulers and landowners were also patron saints of the Maissau parish and some parishes in the Waldviertel until the 20th century .
Gumping belonged to the Maissau rule. In 1795 Gumping had 12 houses and belonged to the fortified district of the laudable regiment GH Ferdinand Toskana.
In 1774 the children from Gumping and the children from Amelsdorf, Buttendorf and Reikersdorf started school in the one-class, eight-year elementary school in Sachsendorf. In the autumn of 1824, due to a lack of space, the students of the community of Gumping in Sachsendorf were trained. From November 24, 1824 they attended the multi-class school in Maissau.
The chapel was built in 1816. A beautiful statue dominates the altar: Mary with the baby Jesus . On July 26th, 1853 the bell was opened and in 1854 the statue of St. Consecrated to Florian.
The district authorities began their work on January 16, 1850. The Unterravelsbach district (with gumping) was assigned to the Horn district. Today Ravelsbach is near the Hollabrunn district . As a criterion for the size of a district, the aim was that the district authorities could be reached in a few hours by horse and cart and that it should be possible to return home on the same day.
The first municipal elections in Lower Austria took place in July 1850 . In 1849 the gendarmerie was founded in Austria. The Gumping Rayon with 15 houses and 49 inhabitants belonged to the post in Maissau.
On January 1st, 1968, due to financial and economic considerations, the municipalities were amalgamated with Maissau.
