Gunter Link

Gunter Ulrich Link (born June 2, 1949 in Stuttgart ) is a German journalist with a doctorate in political science.

Life

After graduating from high school in Stuttgart and with the Bundeswehr with the mountain troops in Füssen in the Allgäu, Link studied politics , German language and literature , history , education and communication sciences and worked as a volunteer at Kibbutz Bahan in Israel . At the University of Stuttgart , he received his doctorate in international media policy for Dr. phil.

During his studies, Link began his journalistic career as a freelancer at Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) Stuttgart and Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) Cologne. As an editor , reporter and presenter he worked for radio editors in the former SDR studio in Bonn and in the ARD studio in Cairo . In 1986 he moved to the SDR television station as a senior editor and presenter . With the merger of SDR and Südwestfunk (SWF) to form Südwestrundfunk (SWR) in 1998 , he took over the management of the staff services of the newly founded state broadcasting authority of Baden-Württemberg . Most recently, he was head of the early evening television program at SWR in Stuttgart and deputy head of the state television program in Baden-Württemberg.

Link has been running the independent, non-commercial media watch blog neueWestfernsehen since April 2020 .

Coming from a long-established Württemberg winemaking family, Link also dealt with the subject of wine as a journalist . In 1997 the German Wine Institute in Mainz awarded him the title “Recognized Advisor for German Wine”.

In 2006, Link was one of the co-founders of the SWR operating group of the Association of Radio, Film and Television Creators (VRFF) in the German Association of Officials . He was made an honorary member of the VRFF for his services to the successful establishment of the operating group.

From 2005 to 2013 Link worked as an honorary judge at the District Court and the Regional Court of Stuttgart . He is married and has two sons.
