Gustav is a music project from Vienna that can best be classified in the pop genre. Electronic influences also shape her musical style again and again. Eva Jantschitsch is the musician behind the name Gustav. The name of the project comes from her father's original desire to have a son, who would then have been named Gustav.

Eva Jantschitsch

Jantschitsch grew up in Graz and has lived in Vienna since 1997. She studied visual media design and digital art at the University of Applied Arts with Peter Weibel and Karel Dudesek. She made her first appearance as a musician in 2002 at the women's gang festival in the Ernst-Kirchweger-Haus . In this feminist context, networks emerged that still exist today.

In 2005 Gustav received the Amadeus Austrian Music Award as “FM4 Alternative Act of the Year”. As part of a commissioned work for the Wiener Festwochen , she composed parts of the music for the piece Draußen die dark number rages by Kathrin Röggla . In 2009 she appeared alongside Dulce Pontes , Juliette Gréco , Wolfgang Ambros and Willi Resetarits at the opening of the Wiener Festwochen. For the fist -Schwerpunkt the Salzburg Festival in 2011, she composed on behalf of Friends of the Salzburg Festival the 12-part song cycle light music to search for knowledge , which on August 10 with the participation of Ben Becker premiered. In January 2013 she received the Austrian Film Award in the Best Music category for the film Grenzgänger . In the same year she was nominated for the Austrian Nestroy Theater Prize , for the music to The Alpine King and the Misanthrope.

In 2015, a revised version of the Proletenpassion was resumed . Eva Jantschitsch has rearranged the music for this.

For the soundtrack of the Austrian film Gruber geht (2015), Gustav contributed a cover version of Bob Dylan's Born in Time as well as the new piece An dem Tag .

The song We Shall Overcome was chosen in 2020 by the pop culture magazine The Gap as part of the AustroTOP ranking at number 11 of the “100 most important Austrian pop songs”.
