Gustav Christoph Sarpe

Gustav Christoph Sarpe (Gustav Johann Christoph; born January 19, 1779 in Magdeburg , † November 2, 1830 in Rostock ) was a classical philologist and headmaster in Rostock.

He graduated from the pedagogy at the monastery of Our Dear Women in Magdeburg at Easter 1797. He then studied in Halle (Saale) until 1800 and was awarded a doctorate there. phil. PhD. In 1801 he became a teacher at the pedagogy at Berge monastery , after the end of the pedagogy in 1811, he became a preacher in the monastery community and first teacher at the school teachers' college in the then Elbe department until 1815.

In 1815 he was appointed to the large city school Rostock , where he also advises. full professor of Greek literature at the University of Rostock and rector or director of the large city school. He held both offices for 15 years and led the school to a new reputation, also through a division into a new humanist and a realistic branch with a citizen school .
